| | Paper costs pushes Potter prices up
Increasing demand and the shutting down of polluting paper factories have caused the price of paper in China to go up by 10% this year. Now that paper is more expensive, publishers are forced to delay the printing of books and raise their prices.
The Chinese paperback Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is now selling at twice its original price due to the increasing paper costs.
Right now, this is only a problem in China, but market analysts worry that it may spread to the rest of the world. Especially seeing as many publishers in the United States and Europe are printing their books in China. Quote:
When People's Literature raised the cover price of the latest Harry Potter installment, fans of the series complained, said an employee in the publishing section who would only give his surname, Wu.
Hu Lichang, a construction worker in Beijing, hunted for bargain copies of the latest Harry Potter book at a recent Beijing book fair before finding a discounted volume for $6.75.
"But even that was expensive," he said.
Yikes...looks like I'm going to have to stop buying food just to support my reading habit!

However, there's a lot of paper and such going to waste, even as companies make an effort to go green. People don't recycle enough.
It is really sad that the price of paper is being pushed up so much, though. But maybe it'll make us think twice before throwing out a good piece of paper because it has a sentence or two written on it... or a smiley face.

Ah well, if this will make people stop planting more trees and stop getting rid of the few we have left then it's a good thing, I guess =/ I wish it wasn't necessary though *sigh*

We spent time here. We made friends here. That's a part of us.
Cause Hogwarts is bigger than any of us, of any of it's founders,
and it's going to be around long after we're gone.
Maybe we'll see our kids come here one day.
That's the thing about Hogwarts.
No matter how long you're away from it, there's always a way back. |
