In a new interview with Film Music Weekly (Scroll down to page 4!), OotP composer Nicholas Hooper discusses the film's process, his relationship with director David Yates, and the new film's dark theme. Quote:
"The themes of the film itself demanded a lot of fresh and different material. Two of the main themes were 'Umbridge's Theme' and the 'Possession Theme,'" explains Nicholas Hooper. "...The theme reflects [Umbridge's] character in an insistent, irritating way and was great fun to write! - Should be a hit with ring tones!"
He also mentions John Williams's "Hedwig's Theme" that goes all the way back to the first Harry Potter film. Quote:
We all felt that it was essential that we use John Williams' beautiful and haunting theme as it is so strongly identified with the films. Having worked closely with David Yates for many years, we have always tried to push the boundaries of what we do, and have often worked well in advance of the film being completed. This produced a score which grew and developed organically with the film.

I love the fact that they've decided to incorporate some of the music that John Williams set to the originals. I don't know anyone who is in to the books and movies who doesn't recognise the opening bars from Hedwigs theme. Any time I hear those sounds my ears perk up. I can't wait to hear the new music. I do have to say that the first time I listened to GoF's soundtrack (even before the movie came out) I was confused about many of the songs and couldn't decide what images would match them. But several years later, I have grown to like the songs, but still I miss Williams' stuff........Spots :ballcap:

Oh yea!!! I'm incredibly glad to hear that!!
I was hoping the next HP composer wouldn't ROYALLY screw up the score like Patrick Doyle... 
I mean really... he already had half the work done for him... continue in the path of John Williams, use his themes and create a great score. Unfortunately, Doyle didn't get the memo....
Anyway, I'm so happy to hear Nicholas Hooper is intelligent and keeping Hedwig's Theme. I'm actually pretty excited to hear what he turns out.

I, too, love them soooo much, that I downloaded them into my iPod! John Williams is awesome. Same with Patrick Doyle and Nicholas Hooper. I knew Nicholas had something...unique when I heard the music from the trailer. I can't wait to hear the rest of them!
