| | New Half-Blood Prince Dumbledore & Harry photo + trio cast interviews (UPDATED)
In a new interview with the LA Times, Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson talk about the various aspects of Half-Blood Prince, including its core theme, Quidditch, and the romances as a whole. A new photo featuring Harry and Dumbledore inside Slughorn's house was attached to the article and can be seen here: Quote:
"You would think that, but truly every film is different, and this time around the refreshing aspect was the adolescent romantic core of this film, which should be absolutely charming and very funny," Radcliffe said during a break from shooting. "So from that point of view, it is quite a different film, because we haven't had anything that has had this sort of light and warm and funny a core before."
On his Quidditch scenes, Rupert says: Quote:
"I found out it was not as much fun to film as I hoped," said Grint, who was left weary and sore by the mechanized broom handle and had headaches from staring at the giant green screen that provides the backdrop canvas for computer artists to later fill in with crowds and the towering playing field. "It's going to be more fun to watch than it was to film."
Emma comments on the lighter side of the romance in the sixth film: Quote:
"It's so much fun, and I'm really enjoying it," Watson said sitting in her pink-bedecked dressing room. "And it makes a change, because the last one was very heavy, and it is really nice to have that. . . . It's a nice break for me. And for the fans, I think it's going to be very, very funny."
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince hits theatres on July 15, 2009.
We will have the photo in hi-res come Monday.
Source: LeakyNews UPDATE: Warner Brothers have sent over a hi-res version of the photo, which can be seen here. |

| “the refreshing aspect was the adolescent romantic core of this film, which should be absolutely charming and very funny”
I beg your pardon? The core of the film? I must admit as a non-shipper (Thank the Lord!) that the book of The Half-Blood Prince had an awful lot of romance for my taste, it felt like 60%. But just because it was the majority, didn't mean it was the most important - the filmmakers should have worked that out. With hundreds of pages to fill, JKR could also include an awful lot of everything else – the ever more enigmatic Snape, Dumbledore, the memories that made Tom Riddle what he is now – Voldemort(!) etc.
HBP also introduced Slughorn, a great character who spent years making the most influential of friends, yet Harry and Dumbledore found him on the run, hiding as chair! Where were his fancy friends then? Maybe those sorts of friends can help you get a job you might not deserve on merit, but not many of the Slug Club would turn up and fight for Harry, apart from the ones in the DA. They're quite likely to be on Voldemort’s side. Harry learnt the lesson of what friendship means gradually through the books – do you think we’ll see that level of analysis in this film? What about Draco learning that casual bigotry is in a different league to killing someone in cold blood? Though, to be fair, he was in the last, and best, trailer, I hope they don’t mess it up.
The core of any story worthy of the adjective ‘great’, or even just ‘good’ is the plot. The plot, especially in the later novels, is Harry vs Voldemort, they’re not primarily romance novels. Not all the stories have a lot of Voldemort (PoA for example), so when they do, it has to take priority. That’s what the core should be, understanding Voldemort and learning about horcruxes, with the Half-Blood-Prince and Dumbledore’s last big moments as the main sub-plots that come together with the core at the end. If you cut Dean, Lavender and McClaggen, the real story, and series arc would remain unchanged. You can’t say that of Riddle, Dumbledore and Snape (though they’ve made a good try with Snape!) The romance (and Ron/Quidditch) is great to lighten the mood, otherwise this film might be heavy going, but it shouldn’t be the mood.
n.b. I'm not criticising shipping. I just mean that debating on forums like this, and indeed reading the books has been a relatively painless experience for me because I wasn't emotionally invested in any particular pairing! I only started to feel pain over HP as the films progressed.......

| Hocus Pocus * HP Newsoholic Yes, I'm really hoping to watch the romantic side of Ron and Lavender, and Hermione's reaction to all of that. It's about time that Ron is highlighted a bit.
I enjoy reading Miss Rastaban's comments. They're quite insightful. Thanks.

In the picture, where is Dumbledore's dead hand? Hmmmm... fishy.
Oh well! They probably just didn't edit it so it would be a surprise.

This is so cool, now my patience is starting to wane to the point that anything I can find of Harry Potter is going to calm me down for a while.

Very freaky, dark and somewhat cool Though, due to the darkness, Its hard to tell if WB did any justice to Sluggy's house |
