| | More info on the HBP Reading & Conference The Times has published some additional information about the ' Half-Blood Prince' Conference weekend events. It is revealed that J.K.Rowling will read from the first chapter of ' Half-Blood Prince' on the release night. Quote:
The transformation has been overseen by JK Rowling, the author of the series, and will be the centrepiece of one of the most expensive and extravagant launch parties in the history of publishing.
Quote:
On Friday evening the young guests and their parents or guardians will be collected from a reception at the City Chambers in Edinburgh by 12 carriages drawn by black horses adorned with black ostrich plumes and driven by coachmen dressed in capes.
Quote:
Rowling plans to make her appearance at 12.01am from behind a secret panel to read the first chapter of the new book, a copy of which will be given to each child.
Quote:
The following evening, the children will be “sorted” into one of the four Hogwarts houses — Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin. The guests will then be assigned to a house table, lined with benches, before wizard-themed food is served on gold platters.
The banquet will take place in the castle’s Jacobite Room, which has been hired at a cost of more than £500 an hour and will be decorated with school banners and illuminated with torches. The food for the Hogwarts-style banquet has been devised by Digby Trout, Edinburgh Castle’s caterers, whose basic menu starts at £39 a head.
Quote:
The caterers have also developed their own recipe for butter beer. The non-alcoholic mulled cider is first drunk by Harry in the third book in the series and is described by Rowling as tasting “a little bit like less sickly butterscotch”.
Quote:
“JK Rowling has been very much involved — she always wants events to be focused on the children. She has been consulted at every stage.” said Lucy Holden, spokeswoman for Bloomsbury. "Everything we serve will be along a Hogwarts theme- we've even had to create a few new recipes," she said.

I always thought Butterbeer was slightly alcholic, like Cider. Guess they can't have it that way for this though. It would've been so much more interesting to have adults and serve up Firewhisky and stuff.

We spent time here. We made friends here. That's a part of us.
Cause Hogwarts is bigger than any of us, of any of it's founders,
and it's going to be around long after we're gone.
Maybe we'll see our kids come here one day.
That's the thing about Hogwarts.
No matter how long you're away from it, there's always a way back. |

Oh wow it all sounds so amazingly splendidly wonderingly cool!! Those winners can never imagine how lucky they are! We are the ones who really realise what we're going to miss. |

*Runs to the store, buys butterscohtch, watters it down, and drinks it* How cool is that! Butterbeer... Maybe they'll start selling it in stores? Hehe, thats highly unlikely but it would be really cool. Quote:

Yes, JK focuses a lot on the children but what about the people out there who were reading the books before some of the kids that are going could even read. Sometimes it makes me so angry to see children at 8 or 9 or whatever saying that they are the biggest Harry Potter fans ever when some people were reading the books before they could read or were even born. I know it sounds pretty evil but maybe I'm just an evil person. Mwah ha ha! But after the pure dissapointment at the realisation that someone my age was never going to be chosen to go, sometimes I feel that the cut off age should of been about 14. Im not bitter! Im just dissapointed thats all. Im not crying, there's just something in my eye. *Takes out a hankerchief* |

hmm...I thought it had a touch of alcohol in it. Because in the 4th book when Winky got drunk from it and Harry said it wasnt that strong and Dobby said it is for a House Elf..ahh well i guess they cant make it that way considering the kids
Ahh I wish I could go...

Whisky burns so I'm thinking this drink burns even more. Or maybe it's served on fire. Quote:

It's not. I feel the same. Even moreso when you watch things that just make you squirm. Like the fiasco on ITV now. Some of those kids definitely weren't alive when we started reading the books and yet they're competing for the title of 'The Ultimate Potter fan'. It just makes me want to cry sometimes to see how the original readers/teens/adults are neglected in 90% of these competitions.

| Omg...That sounds so cool. I totally wish I could go. Those who are going are going to have a blast. They are so lucky. It's like they're turning the castle into Hogwarts itself. Have I mentioned how lucky they are.

Hah.. it's worse being eligible to enter [last year, I'm 16] but not having the contest in the country. Everytime I read a kid gets chosen, it eats me up inside. My consolation is that Emmerson and Mel are going to be there. I am putting my faith in them.
Hah... still I wish I could go.
