| | Mira Nair apparently NOT in talks to direct OotP - new interviews have revealed this Summary:
Two new interviews with Mira Nair have contradicted the rumors that she had been offered the job of directing Order of the Phoenix. Article: Mira Nair apparently NOT in talks to direct OotP
After the press ran wild with a rumor that director Mira Nair had been offered the job of directing Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, contradicting statements were made over the weekend in various interviews: The Independent: Quote: "I've been so busy that I haven't even had a chance to read the book. I've read the first two, but I haven't read number five. Obviously it's a fantastic opportunity... but I can't tell you yet if I have the mettle for it. The books are a big favourite in my house, though... my son loves them; I think JK Rowling is amazing." The Hindustan Times: Quote: Right now it's too early to talk about it. I don't know how it got out on the websites. I have to sit with them and work out the dates. Until then I am forbidden from talking about it. Although it is interesting that she's never actually out-right denied being offered the job.

| In Love with Touz | | Lil Mikky-Mu Wow, first to post! Well I guess we'll just have to see. It's disappointing if she doesn't do it for those who wanted a female director, but it seems that most people would rather she didn't take it. Guess it doesn't pay to freak out over who will direct it as they seem to be taking their time deciding and offering. :sorcerer:
Also, here is some info on Mira Nair I randomly found: two articles to be found here and here

That is contradictory because I read another report where she said that she had read the fifth book. I actually hope she was offered the job, I'd rather see a director with more experience with big budgets take over the series.

We've got a while until the fifth movie is in the picture...
A lot may well change by then....
I do hope she does direct it though....
It'll be nice to have a female director for a change...

I agree with Siriusly In Love, I want someone more experienced with a big budget and big productions to work on the series. OOTP is so important, and I just want someone more accostomed(sp?) to direct it.

[Sarcasm people don't stone me please  ]
Honestly I would want a director who was keen on the stories as big a geek as any fanboy but mature enough to know you can't make it a five hour film. How about Tarantino...Miramax can release it as two movie Kill Harry... and Kill Harry 2 [please read sarcasm again, put the rocks down].
Seriously though I wish they would hire someone who would be true to the spirit of the books and the stories because special effects aside that's why we love the books right they don't come with special effects. It's the characters that we love Harry, Ron, Hermione, Luna, Neville, and especially Ginny in Ootp.
I want a director who would show the heart of the characters staying true to them and the story than a completely accurate scene by scene movie. That said yes I realize they'd have to omit stuff.

This is probably better in the longrun. I agree a female would be nice, but I wouldn't care who it was as long as they kept the spirit of the first three movies.

If you want to bring out the personalities of the characters, you have to let them talk, not just run and scream...
And the second statement from the Hindustan Times article doesn't exactly sound like a denial to me, so maybe there's still the chance they'll offer the job to Mira Nair...

Basically I read the second one as if to say she hasn't been approached because it's too early. Which, some people forget, it is. Also, even people rumored to be taking the job without actually having it are forbidden from speaking about it, it's technique used to create hype, which it has done really.
I want the great trio to do it. Alan and Kenneth should direct and Emma Thompson should script.

Actually I'd like to see Tim Burton do it...but I can't really see any of the producers letting him anywhere near it. I do love Tim Burton films though...and he does have a tendancy to cast Johnny Depp...
Can't think who else I'd like to do ootp...'cept Alfonso...I really do want him to do another one!!!

| True, she hasnt said anything about turning it down. In some way she sounds like she might be considering it. But one thing we do know is that she definatly has been approached about it or she wouldnt have mentioned anything about it in her interview. And also she didnt deny that she was approached.

With every movie, we lost a little of the characters and a gained a little more action... the assumption seems to be that we already had some characterization and that that's enough; but it's not!! Quote: I want the great trio to do it. Alan and Kenneth should direct and Emma Thompson should script. That's is definitely the best idea yet!! There is a team worthy of OotP! :sorcerer: Though I think that PoA is a book with a lot of action and the movie turned out beautifully. Cuaron did a great job, but the movie worked well for non-readers of the books, while us avid fans are a little disappointed with what had to be chopped out.

Emma deserves to script so much more than Kloves. She's won Golden Globes for her adaptations before and that proves she can transfer from book to screen well.
