Newsweek has an article on Mexico's latest generation of directors, which mentions Harry Potter director Alfonso Cuarón:
“It’s very hard to put films together in Mexico,” Cuarón said last week from the “Harry Potter” set. “What is ironic is that at a time when there’s all this attention being paid to Mexican cinema, the Mexican government is proposing to close all these institutions that support it.”

I can't believe Fox is doing that! So much talent will be wasted there! After the problem with the "Father Amaro" movie, winning over the Church, now it has to go against an intimidated president? :arg: This is bull $h1t!!!!!!!! I just hope that all the fuzz that is going on there, with the students and leaders of that cinema group, will make the difference and not let the gov take over!

So Alfonso Cuaron is Mexican? Neato! I didn't know that! I read somewhere that he was Columbian! Hope the POA is fantabulistic!!! ok, that said...
I CAN"T STAND FOX! GAAH, first of all, there are barely any good movies made in Mexico (like, full of actual substance) and then they wanna go and shut down the few good ones??? See why Mexico is in such a rut??? DARN THE GOVERNMENT!!!! GAAAH!!!! >
You know, it never hurts to know what's going on in other countries besides your own, cause there are other countries out there people. |

hi. im from mexico and let me tell ya guys one thing here: this article is absolutely right. It is very true that the mexican government is trying to close most of the cinematographic institutions in mexico. and you know what? this is what will happen: MEXICAN ACTORS, ACTRESSES AND DIRCETORS WILL FOLLOW CUARÓN AND IÑARRITU OUT OF THE COUNTRY TO KEEP ON WORKING, just have a look at Salma Hayek, for an example.

Well, I personally had nothing against Fox's gov, I actually saw some change (because the dramatic change was not gonna be done in one night after 71 years of PRI opression, but then again, Bush made a big change in the US, by basically destroying the country economically while blasting others at his will! But that's another issue!) I mean, Fox has opened many doors for comerce, for not only depending on NAFTA (which was only trade with it's own continent, North America) and Mexico has been becoming a safer place, slow, but it's being done! But this really infurated me! But I bet that the cinema institutions won't be shut down! And more talent like Cuarón, Iñarritu, Gael Garcia Bernal, Diego Luna, Guillermo del Toro and many more that are either stable in the Theatre and TV, but would like to give a chance in the movie industry! What he should shut down is that economic aid given to former presidents of the republic, and make them work like they do with Clinton, Bush Sr and other forme US presidents!
And for the misinformed person that thought Cuarón was Colombian! LOL! Es bien Méxicano el Charolastra! But it would be a shame to see Mexico fall like that, after being recognized internationally again on film, after the crumble of the Mexican Film Golden Age, which was in constant battle with US productions, and having very talented people such as la Doña Maria Felix, Mario Moreno "Cantinflas", Katy Jurado and many, many more!
Mexico is the Latin American country that exports more productions such as films, soap operas and musical talent, followed by Brazil and Argentina (Puerto Rico is part of the US, but also export great talent), and let's hope it doesn't become like Cuba (who also has much talent, but wasted in that island ) like Venezuela has become!
Fox! La porra te saluda!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, yeah, yeah, c'mon mi raza! Mexico is just being lame for blocking the cinema in there.
*Shakes head*
I never understood Mexico but I am just HAPPY that FINALLY some Mexican took the director's job of a POPULAR movie that mostly caucasians take. Go, go, Cuaron!

Me 2! I'm so happy that a Hispanic (No matter from where, or what race he/she is, even though Cuarón is pretty much a caucasian, 'cause he's not black or Asian)! But even more excited that it was a Mexican! And even better a Charolastra! !
But they r not blocking the cinemá or anything, just the funds for making movies, u will still be able to go to the cinemás, now that it has become a big grossing place, making actors and actresses going there to the premiéres and to promote, like Viggo Mortensen recently went for Lord of the Rings III and Hidalgo! |

i'm glad to see a hispanic going somewhere.. i'm spanish and i don't see a whole lot of hispanics doing huge things... and HP3 PoA is a HUGE deal! its my favorite book of the series. from what i saw in the teaser, this director is pulling the HP movies in the right direction. Chris Columbus did justice to the first two movies, but the third book steps up a level and isn't quite as much of a childrens book as the first two. i think cuarón is going to take HP PoA up a notch, right where it belongs. i also like his use of film noir, since the books steadily get darker, the use of darker film creates a better atmosphere for the movie.. i can't wait for it to come out!!!!!!!!

Cuarón is a superb director!! He's got a really refined artistic vision, he knows how to create and mantain a certain environment, to synch the performances, the colors, the environment... I bet that POA will be a fantastic movie.
We have a lot of talented people like him in Mexico. Mexicans have a special sensibility towards the arts, it's in our blood. Creativity, color and sensibility are a vital part of our culture and of our personalities. Unfortunately, opportunities for developing such talents are really scarce in our country. Ignorance, illiteracy and the government's oppression and lack of vision refrains the real possibilities of Mexico and its people.
* sigh* Anyway, since the government isn't doing a thing for the country's development, it's up to us, simple civilians, to create, propose and work to develop new visions that will help our country to show the world what it's really made of. If we don't do this, who will?
(Sorry for the lecture, I'm devoted to investigation in future technologies and education, so I get a bit carried away when obstacles for reaching goals in those fields come up! :online2long: )
