THE chief executive of the Royal Bank of Scotland has been voted Scotland’s most powerful individual for the second year running.
Fred Goodwin came top of Scotland on Sunday’s list of the country’s 100 most powerful men and women. The panel voted unanimously for Mr Goodwin, under whose rule the bank has become the world’s fifth largest financial institution, and is valued at more than £50 billion on the London Stock Exchange.
Two out of the top five places were held by women, with Harry Potter author JK Rowling in third place and Jeane Freeman, the special adviser to Jack McConnell, in fourth.
Entrepreneur Tom Hunter was placed fifth, while James Crosby, the chief executive of HBOS, came in fifth.
Other notable entries included Edinburgh-based author Alexander McCall Smith, who appeared on the list for the first time in 14th place; while Scots rockers Franz Ferdinand appeared in 100th place.
The Glasgow-based pop group has risen to prominence barely a year after forming.
The list does not include elected politicians
