Comedian Jessica Williams, of
The Daily Show fame in the United States, revealed how she got cast in the upcoming sequel to
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
As she became fast friends with J.K. Rowling - with whom she shares a birthday, July 31 - the
Harry Potter author and screenwriter revealed to Williams that she had the perfect new character in mind for her to portray. More on that below.
Quote:
Switching gears, you’re going to be in the Fantastic Beasts sequel, right?
Jessica Williams: Yes! I’m so excited. I’m pumped.
How did you get involved with that?
Williams: I hung out with J.K. [Rowling], and she had reached out to me a couple of days after we met. She sent me these emails about this really amazing character that she had been working on. That’s pretty much how it all got started. It’s really exciting. I leave next Friday for London, so I’m really excited about this. It’s like my wildest dream.
I know you’ve been a Harry Potter fan for a long time. What’s it like to join this universe with Fantastic Beasts?
Williams: I really have been a diehard fan since around the time I started playing The Sims. Those movies and books, especially the books, were so important to me. I could not have fathomed that when I was in the fourth grade reading these books, there would be a character I play that exists in this universe. It’s insane to me.
The following plot details were released by Warner Bros. about the second installment, which hits theaters and IMAX in November 2018.
Quote:
Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling wrote the screenplay for the film, which opens in 1927, a few months after Newt helped to unveil and capture the infamous Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald. However, as he promised he would, Grindelwald has made a dramatic escape and has been gathering more followers to his cause—elevating wizards above all non-magical beings.
The only one who might be able to stop him is the wizard he once called his dearest friend, Albus Dumbledore. But Dumbledore will need help from the wizard who had thwarted Grindelwald once before, his former student Newt Scamander. The adventure reunites Newt with Tina, Queenie and Jacob, but his mission will also test their loyalties as they face new perils in an increasingly dangerous and divided wizarding world.
The starring cast for
Fantastic Beasts 2 includes Williams with Eddie Redmayne (Newt Scamander), Katherine Waterston (Tina Goldstein), Alison Sudol (Queenie Goldstein), Dan Fogler (Jacob Kowalski), Ezra Miller (Credence Barebone), Johnny Depp (Gellert Grindelwald), Kevin Guthrie (Abernathy), Callum Turner (Theseus Scamander), Jude Law (Albus Dumbledore), Carmen Ejogo (Seraphina Picquery), and Zoe Kravitz (Leta Lestrange).
