Yesterday we
reported that, through French media, it seemed Jean-Pierre had turned down the job of directing OotP. This news came after a
report arose several weeks ago stating Jeunet had been offered the job.
It now appears that Jean-Pierre may still be making his mind up about the whole offer, made to him by WB.
He recently participated in a chat with another French Magazine,
"Liberation" where he appears to have not yet made up his mind and come to a decision.
Here is a quote from that chat:
Quote:
"Warner Bros has made me a proposition for number five, I have the book right in front of me that I have to read; I have no idea of what my next film will be."
On top of that,
Empire Online have an article featuring an interview with the French director which was conducted earlier this week. This time Jeunet says he hasn't read the script for the fifth film yet (we've yet to hear whether Kloves has agreed to script OotP so there may well not be a script yet) and also has not made up his mind about the offer.
Empire also claim that the previous Potter directors wont be returning for the fifth installment (Newell, Cuaron or Columbus). They also claim that Mira Nair (director of 'Vanity Fair'), who was previously in talks with WB in relation to directing OotP, has passed up the offer.
Quote:
For current director Mike Newell won't be returning, nor will previous Potter helmers, Chris Columbus and Alfonso Cuaron, so Warners are looking for an entirely new person to take charge. At first, rumour had it that Mira Nair, director of Vanity Fair, had been approached (and seems to have passed), and then internet gossip last week posited a new name: Jean-Pierre Jeunet.
At first glance, it's a match made in heaven: the supremely stylish visuals of Jeunet married to one of the most FX-heavy, eye-candy filled franchises in modern cinema; topped off with equal amounts of innocence and darkness. But we all remember what happened the last time Jeunet dared to work in Hollywood: Alien Resurrection…
Quote:
"They proposed me something like this, yes," said Jeunet.
But would he do it? "I have no idea because I wait to read the book, I have to take my time," he explained. "When you are in love with a story, you have to take your time to follow it and to fall in love again one time. You need some time. And I need to be in love with a story because I am going to spend four years of my life inside without pleasure, without seeing anybody, you work 16 hours per day and at the weekend and I need to be in love with each detail."
Which could be the sticking point, for Jeunet freely admits that he's not exactly au fait with the Potter-verse. "I am not completely excited //today//," he smiled, "but I didn’t read the script and I watch only the last one, which was pretty good.
"But if I found a new personal idea, I suppose I would be more excited. But I need some time to think and they don’t give me a lot of time…"
Empire also say that they think Jeunet is the man for the job.
