| | J.K.Rowling to attend Queen's Birthday Bash
J.K.Rowling is to attend a children's literature themed party at Buckingham Palace on June 25th for the Queen's 80th birthday.
3000 tickets are available to the public in a ballot. Children entering must be between the ages of 4 - 14 and, if they win, they will be able to take a friend and an adult along with them to the party.
Many British books and characters are to be celebrated also with the aim of promoting reading amongst children. Events will include a play based on Roald Dahl's BFG. Quote:
'I can think of no better way to mark the Queen's 80th birthday than with a party for children at the Palace with some of the best loved characters from children's literature. Harry and I are very much looking forward to attending, particularly as we understand that, despite his alleged membership of the aristocracy, Lord Voldemort has not been invited.'
JK Rowling
Quote:
At 6pm, a specially written show will be staged in the Garden, lasting around an hour and a half. The show is being broadcast live on BBC1. CBBC will also be at the Party to go behind the scenes and bring you all the best bits.
For a chance to win tickets, go to this page. Terms and Conditions can be found here and here - you have to be British to apply for tickets. The draw closes on February 28th.
In the name of nostalgia, pictures from the announcement of the plans, featuring much-loved children's characters, can be seen here. UPDATE: Apparently Dan Radcliffe is NOT going to be attending the event. |

8. You will be asked who you want to take with you in the age-range 4-14 - perhaps a brother or sister, or friend. You must be accompanied by either a parent, grandparent, guardian, or a person over the age of 18 - maybe an older sibling.
haha they read my mind *enters little brother into the ballot*
I saw it on the lunch time news. They had loads of characters at the Palace...Noddy, Postman Pat, Mary Poppins, Paddington Bear...I got all nostalgic watching it. It looks like it's going to be an amazing event. I really want to go.

lol, that's funny. And the event sounds cool too, but I wouldn't be able to enter because I'm too old.

Love JKR's statement, she always is so witty and well-spoken. Wow, what an awesome honor for the both them! Good luck attaining invitations to all of those young enough and in the right country to attend! Maybe someone will take some pics and share the magic?!

I think you'd better double check on Dan's attendance. According to danradcliffe.com, he's definitely not going.

Katies's right. Quote:
This is London has posted an article about an event being hosted by the Queen on June 25th to celebrate her 80th birthday at Buckingham Palace, stating Daniel will be among the list of people in attendance.
His representative has confirmed this is definitely not true. He will not be attending as of right now.

That's awesome! Although I'm surprised it wasn't the trio altogether. I know the books are about Harry, but Rupert/Ron and Emma/Hermione are just as well known as is Dan/Harry. But that's neat regardless. |
