| | Hogwarts castle takes shape at Wizarding World of Harry Potter
New photos show that Hogwarts castle is taking shape at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, which is currently under construction at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida. Towers and turrets can now be seen standing in the theme park. Three pictures can be seen here;
The park will open sometime in spring 2010.

You see that very top turret? I touched it. While it was still in a construction zone and everything. :3
They put such an amazing amount of detail into it. The rows of stained glass windows are actual stained glass, even though it's so high you can't see the windows anyway. SOESSITED.

The reason I think so?
Universal Orlando's annual passes have listed 2010 blackout dates during all the traditional Orlando peak season blackout dates, same as 2009 - Spring Break, Christmas-New Year, and peak of summer (July)... But in 2010, unlike in 2009, March 20 is ALSO blacked out, all by its lonesome. Not Sunday the 21st, just that Saturday, then no blackout dates again until the following week which is the usual Spring Break blackout period. For no. apparent. reason.
Why? Seems suspicious.
I'm no Ravenclaw, but it seems to me the Slytherin thing to do* would be to black out all the 'lower level' passes on the grand opening day for WWOHP, just to cut down on the crowds where they can and because they know the truly rabid fans like me would BUY a pass that day just to go to the Opening anyway (the top-tier annual passes do not HAVE blackout dates).
Just sayin'.
*saves the date, just in case*
*Good marketing people are, by and large, Slytherins. No question about that.

I'll have to talk to my sources about that date. I'm currently still working on getting my annual pass for the new year. I have every intention to get the top-tier pass since I don't like blackout dates and what not. Plus as of late, i have been more inclined to going to Universal than to Disney. I know once I find out the date of the opening I'll have to request the time off to go play since I haven't been back to that park since my only visit there during the soft open. I'll probably be one of those rabid fans there as well.

It would actually be totally awesome if it was at the end of April, my b-day is at the end and that would be the ultimate gift to go down there.
It's been about 1 or 2 years now that me and my cousins have been talking about going for a major road trip. That would be the best day that I would ever have.
I can't wait! |

LOL You and i were probably at IOA on the same day then, I went to the soft opening too. Are you a local then as well? Yes, I've lived down here for six years now. I'm just down I-4 from the park and literally next door to Disney. I haven't had the chance to see how the park has come together since I'm always working but I have a few friends that are actually keeping me in the loop over everything. One of my friends even drove me over to see one of the turrets while it was in storage off Turkey Lake, but I'm sure he did that just to hear me go all fangirl. LoL

Compare and contrast the 2009 blackout dates to 2010, and you'll see what I mean. (They've also added the full month of July to their blackouts, which doesn't surprise me due to the new island's anticipated popularity since that's peak season, but that day all by itself in March 2010 is the one that makes me go Hmmm... I mean, if it was JUST due to ancitipated crowds for spring break, why not black out Sunday the 21st as well? )

Just sounds odd for them to have a soft open on a Saturday, since apparently they aren't known to do that. But I'll keep on it.
I also looked at the passes last night and I'm so looking at the top tier. I'm sure WWOHP is going to replace Epcot as my favorite theme park this spring.
