WEALTHY house-hunters have the chance to become neighbours with Harry Potter creator JK Rowling.

A three-bedroom property has been put on the market just yards away from the millionaire author’s home in Merchiston.

Experts have predicted that the opportunity to live next door to Rowling’s Georgian mansion would create a flood of offers. It is on the market for offers over £595,000.

The area is also home to Transport and Scottish Secretary Alistair Darling and novelist Ian Rankin.

Simon Fairclough, marketing manager of the Edinburgh Solicitors’ Property Centre, said the neighbourhood itself was a big draw for potential buyers.

He added: "Even though there has been a slight softening in property price inflation, the competition will still be extreme.

"Whether or not a famous neighbour will make any difference we will have to wait and see, but I’m sure that will interest a few people. It is a popular area with quality housing and people who spend this amount of money on homes will be looking to move somewhere like this."

However, Rowling has created controversy with neighbours in the past over privacy issues at her mansion.

Earlier this year, neighbours expressed anger after the author revealed plans to surround her home with CCTV cameras.

Ms Rowling was only given approval after making assurances that the cameras would not look on to neighbouring houses. Two years ago, she had an 8ft wall built around her home and electric gates installed.
