Default Harry Potter is the most imaginative children's book

According to the CBBC the Harry Potter books are the most imaginative kids' stories. A survey involving 700 children from the ages of 10 to 13 was carried out by the Prince of Wales Arts & Kids Foundation's StoryQuest storytelling festival in the UK.

Quote:
JK Rowling's young wizard was followed on the list by The Lord of the Rings and the Tracy Beaker stories.
Quote:
Other books on the kids' list were the Goosebumps collection and Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which is being filmed by director Tim Burton.

hp is definitely imaginative. some characters (i mean creatures) are already .. there.. but its just that some people dont know about them. werewolves, every1 knows, but things like hippogriffs might be less known. and of course the inventions of things like dementors, etc.

They only did a survey on 10 to 13 year olds. Thats rubbish. They should have came to me and i would have told them the stuff that they would of said and maybe a bit more. Like " I cant breath without Harry Potter" and "I make sure its by my bed every nite" you know stuff that a Harry Potter maniac/obsesser would say. But interviewing 10 to 13 year olds is implying that they only read them and it makes me feel that i'm too old to read them. But im not going to let that put me off.

They're the best that's for sure otherwise we wouldn't be here talking about them, and I wouldn't be eagerly awaiting the next volume. It's one of the best series of books I've ever read right up there with Chronicles of Narnia, and that's why I keep reading them again and again.

I don't think you can ever be too old to read a book you like. Too young that's another story, but HP is for all ages.

10-13's?! Well that puts me in my place! I'm 55! I think they're by far the most imaginative literature - adult or children's - I've ever read and I've been an avid reader all my life. I must say though, wouldn't call OOP children's literature.

I can't remember the last time I actually felt I was in there battling it out with a character as I did when Dumbledore was whupping Voldemort's hide in the Ministry of Magic!! Or - my God - was I ever holding Harry's wrist steady when he as in the light dome fighting Voldemort and the light beads were shuddering back and forth between their wands!

The last anywhere near absorbing stuff I read was an author called 'BB' when I was 9 although it was very, very different and would be very dated now. C S Lewis was okay but very sedate but I thought Roald Dahl was an insult to children's intelligence (personal opinion - please don't be offended if you don't agree!).

Jo Rowling's books are like sunshine after a long dark night. I just hope I don't 'peg out' before book 7!!!!
