| | Harry Potter is "a hard act to follow" In a recent survery conducted by Waterstone's book chain, nearly one fifth of Harry Potter fans admitted that they will skip to the end of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows before reading the first 608 pages. In fact, that makes seventeen percent in the 500-children poll.
However, a third of them admitted that they will be willing to say up all night to finish it - chances are, girls will read it faster than boys in as little as 30 hours. Nine out of ten children believed that it will be more difficult and upsetting to say goodbye to Harry than Tony Blair, the Prime Minister.
Wayne Winstone, the Waterstone's spokesman, was quoted saying: Quote:
"There's no doubt that Harry will be missed, he's a hard act to follow."

I don't understand the reading the end thing either! A friend of mind does it and it drives me crazy!
And good luck to those people who are staying up!

Hogwarts RPG Name: Dake Juke Sixth Year | O_o Peple actually want to skip to the end?!?!?! I don't think I could take that. Bringing about the end before it's time..... *shivers* As it is, I think I'm stalling... I've still got to finish re-reading OotP and HBP.... erg! Must read! No time!!!!!!!!! I've taken off work to read this book... two days solid of no work so I can sit up as late as I need to finish. I'm rather scared... I already know I'll be in tears when I get the book... I shudder to think about how hysterical I'll be at the end of reading it.... |

| I don't see why you would want to skip to the end, it ruins everything if you know what's going to happen. |

Nooo! Why would you skip to the end??? You might as well just wait for someone else to read it and ask them what happened.

And good luck to those people who are staying up! I agree what is the point of going straight to the end i think everyone should read it from the start if we dont it would have made all the waiting we have done mean nothing. I for one WILL not go straight to the end.

500 isn't anywhere near enough people to provide a conclusive result. Never mind the fact that in the age of commercial television, it shouldn't be surprising attention spans have diminished. I saw just OotP for the third time and had the most irritating 3 or 4 year old sat behind me gabbing the whole way through. Furthermore, I lost all respect for Waterstones when they started that "Save Harry" campaign.

its the last time we get to read harry potter for the first time. why would some people want to ruin that by reading the last pages first. if that's the case why wait til midnight next friday *squeals* i would rather do nothing but read for hours straight.

WHY? why read the ending first? it'll just confuse and probabaly upset me. so i'm sticking to the traditional way of starting from the beginning of course.
haha, i really really can't believe this is the last book of the series. it's so surreal, there's always been the next book to look forward too, but not anymore. *sobs*

Hogwarts RPG Name: Maureen Carmel Garmes First | The only solace I have is the remaining two movies after the 7th book comes out. After that however, I guess we have to close the door on an amazing piece of history.

I plan to stay up reading it. I thought about reading the end first but if he does die, then knowing it will make it hard to read everything that led up to it.

| Although I'm not British and he's slightly less important to me than he would be to someone over there, Tony Blair's absence will never have as much of an impact on me as Harry's. I'm gonna miss him so much, lol.
And I think I've decided that I'm going to stay up all night and finish it, too. I was going to read it slowly and try to savor it, but I'm far too excited. Even if I do try to make it last, I know it'll take me a week, tops. I'd rather finish it with everyone else {and that way make it impossible for the ending to be spoiled, lol}!
