The
Harry Potter television series, which will now debut on HBO in addition to streaming on MAX in the United States, has finally got its showrunners.
Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod, the Emmy-winnng team of acclaimed HBO series
Succession will lead the saga, set to premiere in 2026 with a season-long adaptation of
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.
Gardiner, who has already written the pilot for the series, will be head writer, while Mylod will direct numerous episodes of the show. As showrunners, they will also be executive producers along with J.K. Rowling.
Rowling commented with the below:
Rowling is one of many familiar faces back to the saga; others include Harry Potter film series producer David Heyman, who will help produce the show, along with Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts.
With showrunners set in stone, next on the list is casting for the show, which may take up to months (and will presumably include a country-wide open casting call for Harry and his classmates, similar to how it was back in 2000 when Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson led the way as the famed trio).
More updates on the production, including casting, sets, and filming locations, to be announced in the coming months.
