It is being reported that an attorney representing J.K. Rowling has stated recently that the author's Harry Potter comprehensive encyclopaedia "simply remains something Ms Rowling would like to complete sometime in the future."

This official word has come about as a result of a comment author Ian Rankin made in regards to the progress of the encyclopaedia, where he stated:

"The last I saw of her she was writing the Harry Potter encyclopaedia. Drawing family trees for all the characters, so it would go back over generations."

Please note that this is not confirmation that Jo has completed the encyclopaedia, nor does it give a reference date as to when it will be released. Rankin also never stated when he last saw Jo, so there is no proof that she has been working on the family trees recently. This is merely speculation that the book may one day be released, however there is no guarantee at the present time.

We will date with more on the encyclopaedia, coined the Scottish Book by Jo, when it is made available.

Oh I really hope she does complete it at some point.I would love to get my hands on a copy and read all the family trees!

They've been talking about doing an encyclopedia for months! I'll beleive it when I see it.

I've heard Jo herself say that it will be finished, but how far into the future, she doesn't know. I don't want her to rush it - which it doesn't seem like she will - because I want it to be a fantastic send off for her Harry Potter writing career. I can't wait until it does come out, though!

Ahhh I want it now! But yeah I guess JK deserves a break and time with her family...I just hope god forbide that nothing bad happens to her before its publication.

I know it sounds a bit daft - cos obviously I want another Rowling book NOW! - but it might be nice to have the Encyclopaedia come out for the ten year anniversary of the end of the series or something like that.

No, but seriously. That's awesome, and stuff. But if she's really that smart, she'll team up with Steve Vander Ark to write it... I mean, he's already got most of the stuff compiled. All she reaaaally would have to do is draw family trees and stuff. And I just feel bad for Steve. D:

Jo always said that she did not know when it would be completed and that it would be finished when it was finished and that was that. Hopefully everything is going well with her, whether or not she is currently writing the encyclopedia.
