| | Harry Potter DVD/BDs new shipments, sales stopped in U.S. starting December 29, 2011
Warner Home Video announced today that after December 29, 2011, no more copies of the Harry Potter films in DVD, Blu-ray, or Ultraviolet discs will be shipped out in the United States. The full press release, more detailed than that released specifically for the DVD/BD release for the U.K. earlier today, can be read below. The “Boy Who Lived” comes face to face with the enemy of the wizarding world for a final, epic battle in “Harry Potter and the Deathly HallowsÔ - Part 2” when it arrives on Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD and Digital Download on November 11 from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group. Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson return for the closing installment of the most successful film franchise of all time. “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2” has earned more than $1.3 billion at the worldwide box office.
“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2” was directed by David Yates who also helmed the blockbusters “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,” “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” and “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1.” Returning from previous Harry Potter films is an all-star supporting cast, including Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, Warwick Davis, Tom Felton, Ralph Fiennes, Michael Gambon, Ciarán Hinds, John Hurt, Jason Isaacs, Matthew Lewis, Gary Oldman, Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith, David Thewlis, Julie Walters and Bonnie Wright.
The collective Harry Potter films are the highest-grossing franchise of all time, a global record it has held since the success of the sixth film, 2009’s “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.”
The Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD include an UltraViolet Digital Copy [for the Untied States] of the standard definition main feature, which allows consumers to download the film to a PC or Mac plus instantly stream it from a digital cloud to many computers, tablets or smartphones. “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2” will be available for a limited time only on Blu-ray and DVD, so get your copy before it vanishes from shelves. New shipments of all eight Harry Potter films on Blu-ray and DVD will cease on December 29, 2011.
At the moment it is unknown when the sets will be sold again in U.S. markets (this does not affect international sales), and how it will effect the release of the Ultimate Editions of Deathly Hallows: Parts 1 and 2, the former of which will be out next year.

Of course. They just want to create exclusivity through limited availability, so they can charge a higher price.

| its time to choose between what is right and what is easy
why would they do this? it doesnt make any sense
the only thing that would make sense if they werent bothering to sell dh part 2 on its own after that date because thy will just be selling them in sets.. but why would they stop selling all of them?
i really wanted to get all the ultimate editions, are they going to be pulled off the shelfs or just there until they are sold out.
i hope they are re-released at some point because this is sad for all the future fans of HP

I have never in my entire Harry Potter lifetime been more disappointed with Warner Brothers. I am so angry.
There are children that are just starting Harry Potter, whether by book or film. When they finish the books/want to go see a new film, what are they going to do? They're assuming that the wave of Harry Potter fans is going to die down this year, simply because the final film has come out. So: WHAT ON EARTH?
This is clearly an attempt at getting a mass number of US citizens - where there are the greatest number of Harry Potter fans - to pre-order the DVDs NOW, as we're faced with the horrifying idea that the movies won't be available after December. It's a money-making scheme, but what I don't understand is: wouldn't they make more money in the long run if they just KEPT THE MOVIES ON THE SHELVES? I mean, they still Disney movies, don't they?
And as stated above: they're not even keeping Deathly Hallows 2 on the shelves for two months? That definitely can't be right.
Yes, I am VERY disappointed.

Sounds odd. I'm still not decided on getting it, though, since the ultimate editions are supposed to come out next year.

I think the idea is to stop releasing these versions/sets of the movie and then down the road come out with another set and then another set and another and you get the picture.
If anything they are just looking for a way to make more money by capitilzating on us having to buy different sets of the movies.
I really wish they would have just relased a deluxe set now, with extended editions of the films instead of putting it off for down the road so I'll end up buying another set of the films.

GUYS! RELAX! They did this back a while ago. They stopped shipping out all of the current editions of the films. Notice how you can't buy the 2-disc editions of the film in stores anymore? That's because they stopped making/shipping them. Potter will still be on DVD and Blu-ray, just new editions. Like they have done in the past.

Wait Wait WAIT!!! I've been wanting to get these, but can't afford them yet...now they're going to take them away before I even get a chance?!!! This has nothing to do with seperating out true fans from not (as a PP stated)...I am as big a fan as they come..I just don't have the finances to shell out for a blu-ray plust all the deluxe versions right now. This makes no sense. I hope that when I can get them, they will be available!
