Harry Potter cast talk Cursed Child plays, Fantastic Beasts, Hogwarts in UK, more
SnitchSeeker got the chance to chat with actors Rupert Grint, Bonnie Wright, Matthew Lewis, Katie Leung and Evanna Lynch on the final day of A Celebration of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando Resort this past weekend, where the Harry Potter cast gave their opinions about the extending of J.K. Rowling's Wizarding World, their future projects, and the idea of Hogwarts coming to the UK.
The cast commented on the upcoming Harry Potter and the Cursed Child plays in particular, especially as many of their fictional counterparts will be recast in the London production starting this spring, as well as their anticipation for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
Unfortunately, due to all the background noise, the audio in the video below isn't the greatest, but there's a full and thorough transcript below with which everyone can follow along.
SnitchSeeker: Rupert, this is your first time in Diagon Alley. You actually recorded work for it.
Rupert Grint: I did. I went on the ride yesterday, actually. It was amazing. I haven’t actually explored it fully, but it's amazing.
SnitchSeeker: What's everybody's thoughts about phase two of the wizarding world with Fantastic Beasts and Cursed Child coming out this year?
Bonnie Wright: It's exciting. We can feel almost like fans ourselves. Although we all were fans very much of the books, it's also just really enjoyable to have that element of surprise, really, and just be a fan of cinema just like everyone else. Bring on November!
Evanna Lynch: I just wish we could be there. It's so beautiful. We miss the world a lot.
SnitchSeeker (to Matt): You talked to Jo specifically.
Matt Lewis: Yeah, I saw Jo last year. We chatted about the play a little bit. But it was more from curiosity point of view. I was a huge fan of the books as a kid so it was purely from that part of me, not professionally at all. I don't want to say I have no interest - that sounds dismissive, but I never at any point thought that we would reappear.
I'm very keen not to go back to the story or the character at the end of that series. But, as a fan, yeah sure I was asking her about the play. I was on the set of Fantastic Beasts. It was really exciting to watch a Harry Potter film that I'm not in. So I could chill out and watch it, enjoy it.
SnitchSeeker: For possibly four of you, your characters will be recast in the play - Rupert, there's already a new Ron.
Rupert Grint: Yeah.
SnitchSeeker: What's your thought of Paul Thornley? Ginny will obviously get recast as an adult, as a mom. Maybe Luna and Neville might show up - what's your thoughts on that?
Rupert Grint: Yeah, that's really exciting. I can't wait to see it. I'm not really sure what happens ...
SnitchSeeker: It's just the sequel to Deathly Hallows, so like when they're 37-years-old - it's about their kids.
Matt Lewis: It's quite nice because it's an interpretation of. Like Batman. No one gets stressed out when a different guy plays Batman. It's just different interpretations of source material. This is a different look at the universe that Jo created. Fantastic Beasts is the same thing. I'm quite excited to see it. I'd love it if Neville was in it [the play] and see what someone else's take on it was, and what they decide to do with it. I don't own that character. That doesn't belong to me.
SnitchSeeker: So what's coming up for all of you in terms of projects?
Bonnie Wright: I just directed my film [Medusa's Ankles] last week in London. That's actually the first piece that's not my original ... I didn't write it; it's not my story. Though I wrote the screenplay, but it's an adaptation of an original story. So that was really interesting, to direct something that wasn't my original story. After this I'll go into my empty room and edit it, and hope I can share it with you guys and put it into festivals. So I'm just working on that, really, and that will take up my time for the next few months.
Katie Leung: I'm doing a film at the moment I'm not allowed to talk about, which is pretty irritating. I'm also doing an audio book from Jolly Foul Play next month at some point. I got the script and it's like 356 pages or something. I don't know why when I was asked to do it I thought I was just playing one character, but I've just realized I'm actually reading the whole thing! So that'll be interesting.
Bonnie Wright: The next Stephen Fry ...
Katie Leung: Yeah, exactly! I don't know how many characters there's going to be so I'm going to have to maybe listen to the Harry Potter books.
Evanna Lynch: A movie I shot last year, My Name is Emily, is coming out this summer. It's been awhile in the making. Other than that, just writing. I'm trying to write a book.
SnitchSeeker: What kind of book?
Evanna Lynch: I really don't want to say because I'm at the point where if I talk about it and somebody so much as raises an eyebrow I'll be like, "Okay, I'll throw it out!" (everyone laughs) So I can't talk about it.
Rupert Grint: I have a film out at the moment.
SnitchSeeker: Moonwalkers.
Rupert Grint: Yeah, it's ridiculous. It's really fun. Ron Perlman's actually in it - he's in Fantastic Beasts, as well. After that I'm doing a show for NBC called Superhero.
SnitchSeeker: About the comic book. When do you start filming the pilot?
Rupert Grint: March, I believe. I'm not sure actually.
SnitchSeeker: What about the project you did last year? It was something related to Hitler.
Rupert Grint: Oh yeah. It was for Sky - a story about Hitler when he was an art student. I played his best friend. Talk about a weird parallel - kind of like it was Ron and Harry, but it was Hitler and his only childhood friend. (everyone laughs)
Matt Lewis: He wasn't popular, no?
Rupert Grint: That should be coming out soon.
Matt Lewis: (laughs) I can't top that. I'm working on a crime drama.
SnitchSeeker: Ripper Street?
Matt Lewis: Yeah, Ripper Street. I'm playing a Victorian policeman in 1897 in East London. I've got a series drama called Happy Valley, which is another crime drama, coming out in the UK in February and then it'll come onto Netflix in the US. And then I've got a film called Me Before You out in summer based on the book by JoJo Moyes, which I've seen. It's quite good. So I hope you enjoy that.
SnitchSeeker: We read that you said there was another project that you said you were really excited about but you couldn't talk about it.
Matt Lewis: Did I?
SnitchSeeker: Yeah.
Matt Lewis: I probably still can't talk about it. I don't know what it is. (everyone laughs)
SnitchSeeker: So what would you tell fans who walked away from the series five years ago - now that it's starting all over again? How would you bring them back with Fantastic Beasts and the theme parks and everything?
Bonnie Wright: I think the quality of material and the interest anyone would have speaks for itself, really. We don't really have to hype up Jo's incredible talents of what she does and hype up the quality of experience that you can get at places like the theme park here [in Orlando]. They know how to do what they do here and they do it incredibly well. I would say that, obviously, fantasy films and those type of genre of cinema is incredibly popular still. It's an incredible way to escape reality and I think people still look to that genre as the most popular right now. So it feels like we don't need to pull too many people back - it's their own choosing.
SnitchSeeker: While this [Orlando] is the first park, and there's one in Japan, are you guys ready for the third one in Hollywood this spring? Evanna, you were there.
Evanna Lynch: Yeah, I was. I've been living there [in Los Angeles] the last few years. I have so many friends who are suddenly emailing and texting me that they want to come. So that'll be nice to share it with friends.
SnitchSeeker: What do you think of three Hogwarts spanning the world? Just the idea of it.
Bonnie Wright: It's bizarre.
Matt: It's exciting. The films are quintessentially British, but the stories are not. The stories are universal.
Evanna Lynch: I think England should get one though. I know we have the tour, but ...
SnitchSeeker: We've heard so many fans complain, "Why isn't it in England?"
Evanna Lynch: Yeah!
SnitchSeeker: But Universal's not there.
Evanna Lynch: The accents would be better, wouldn't they?
Bonnie Wright: Maybe we should speak to Universal about opening a park.
And yes, for all those following SnitchSeeker on Twitter, we did give Rupert the Ron Weasley PEZ figure, which he was overjoyed in receiving. The others did jump at looking at the PEZ as well, and tried out some of the sweets in the figure.
Yeah thats what crazy is, when its broken you say theres nothing to fix++++++++++++++++++++ +++++++And you pray that everything will be okay, while you're making all the same mistakes
