| | Harry Potter and Disney To Team Up?
Media insider Jim Hill has posted on his website that the magic world of Hogwarts may soon be found in the magical world of Disney, as Warner Brothers may be close to finalizing a deal with the Disney Company to create a Harry Potter themed attraction. Quote:
Jim,
I would appreciate it if you kept this anonymous. But I have a friend who works for the Warner Brother legal department, who actually sees the contracts. And they just sent me the following e-mail:
"You didn't hear it from me. But there may be a certain wizard visiting the mouse kingdom in the future."
Quote:
Yes. After several years of protracted negotiations with author J. K. Rowling as well as Warner Bros. (During which the Walt Disney Company had to pay out an estimated $140 million in order to land the network broadcasting rights for both "Sorcerer's Stone" and "Chamber of Secrets"), it appears that the Mouse is just inches away from finally acquiring the rights to use the characters and settings from all seven of the "Harry Potter" books in a theme park setting.
The entire article may be read here.
At present, this news must be treated as a rumor, as it is not yet confimed by Warner Brothers and apparently it has cropped up before!
Thanks to HPANA for the tip! |

I was hoping something like that would happen...
Did anyone else wonder why this wasn't thought of sooner?
Or why there was never a McDonald's (Harry Potter) happy meal toy?

That would be really great if they didn't, um, whats the word....mouse it up? You know, make it too cartoony? I previously worked for Disney in the College Program and I know they have a tendency to do that. There is a WB amusement part in Australia on the Gold Coast and after the second movie came out they had a temporary HP attraction. It was really good. Similar to an interactive ride where you have the glasses to put on so you see everything from your point of view but you're on a broomstick simulation and you can ride around Hogwarts...pretty cool. Something like that that is permanent and not temporary would be great!

WTF? Disney is flitty fairies, talking squirrels, and gushy romances like Cinderella and the Little Mermaid. Now, Harry Potter is hot boys, awesome and scary dragons, giant snakes, werewolves, animagi, Ron [Rupert], flying cars, murders and murderers, and Ron! Do either of them even sound close? No way! They should team up with Universal! That's a little more befitting of them! Or they should make a theme park entirely for Harry Potter! Without all of those people in scary multicolorful costumes!

ummmm i think its cool, but there's a possible bad side to this too. The good part is the Harry Potter attractions at Disney Land or Disneyworld. The bad part is the whole Disney name might cause the films to cling to the whole "kiddy PG thing" and I sooo don't want that to happen

I am in a boycott Disney mode after their lastest adaptation of Pooh. After 100 hundred years Disney has decided to add a girl to the Hundred Arce Wood. That is wrong...totally wrong. It is a boy, Christopher Robins not a girl...Kanga is the only girl there. Gesssssshhhhhhh

I don't think this is such a good idea. DisneyWorld Land, whatever you call it is kinda too soft for Harry. I mean I don't exactly see it..besides,like many before me...I don't think they'd do it right!

If Harry Potter goes to Disney I would like to see an entire park devoted to the Harry Potter series with a statue of J.K. in the center of Diagon Alley in front of Gringotts Bank.
Build the entire magical world not just the stores where they can sell Harry Potter novelties. That would be an insult for the series.
In other words,do it right or don't do it at all. |
