| | Harry Potter absent on New York Times Best-Seller list The New York Times reports that, as of its latest issue, Harry Potter has entirely fallen from its best-seller list. Sorceror's Stone first appeared on the list on December 27th 1998 at the bottom of the hardcover fiction section. Within a year, Harry Potter held the top 3 spots. That was when a separate list, for children's books, was created. Furthermore, Harry Potter was later relegated to a series chart, which tracked novels not as individuals, but as compilations. |

Pff... If the HP books warranted the first spots because they were the best-selling books, why did the NYT have to create not one, but two new lists to which to delegate the books to, even if they did "clog up" the main list. I thought this was the point of the list, showing which books were selling the most..?
And I just noticed, that article links to the brilliant review by Christopher Hitchens. You can say about him what you want, but that man has a way with words!

Best sellers list is just that - what is selling best at the time. Well, i am not surprised it fell off the list, everyone who would remotely be interested in reading Deathly Hallows has purchased it. it is not like there is a mad rush to go buy it anymore! many new books come out that people rush to buy and they subsequently make it on the list. I am just glad it was on the list for as long as it was!!!!

We can't expect the book to always be on the best selling list, which doesn't mean it's not a best seller - it's proven beyond any doubt that it sells very well. Naturally ups and downs will happen.

yeah the books cant stay on the best SELLING lists forever,
the best selling books list means it is selling now, and everyone who is anyone has already bought the books. now it may get back on the list once we get closer to the movie release date
and who cares about this list anyways, this website and the fact that JK is worth more now than the queen of England shows how well read her books are and how much the world loved her book.

It was expected. There was way too much controversy regarding those darn Best-seller lists anyway. I stopped referring to the lists a while back, actually. xD To prove my point.... Quote:

who really cares at this point anyways? The book has outsold so many others and will always be considered a classic. By the way, i have read more than a handful of "NY Times Best Sellers" list book and they have been slick, over-hyped drivel and then some have been quite brilliant. It is only a list of what is selling hot that week.

That's sad but not completely shocking. If most people already have a copy of all of the books, they're not going to continue buying more.

even though we can't expect it to stay on this list forever, it's still really sad. but you know, harry potter owned that list for so long that I really don't care what anyone says: it was THE best & best selling series EVER.

I expect they're tired of listing HP So they're looking for loopholes. Personally, I don't care much for lists and stuff. We all know that HP is an international phenomenon, and I'm quite content to stay here in my little Potterish bubble with or without bestseller lists
