The clock has struck well past midnight in the UK, and now is January 9th, which marks Professor Severus Snape's birthday. Had Snape lived to see it (though sadly was murdered at the end of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows on May 2, 1998 by Voldemort and Nagini), he would have celebrated his 51st birthday today! Severus Snape is the perfect example of someone fighting against the darkness inside them in order to do what is right. We all struggle with our own darkness on a daily basis, some people more than others, but it is our choices that show who we are. And Snape's goodness won out. It proves that love conquers all. If Snape had never loved Lily, Dumbledore and Harry's fight against Voldemort would have been so much harder and maybe even impossible. This is why Snape is, for me, the most relatable of all Jo's characters in the series. He had issues. He had pain. He had let that pain influence who he was as a person. But he also had love. And that love saved Severus Snape.
