| | |  Half-Blood Prince release date pushed back to summer 2009 (UPDATE #2)
Warner Brothers have today announced that the Half-Blood Prince release date is to be pushed back to summer 2009. The release date will now be July 17th 2009. Quote:
In making the announcement, Mr. Horn stated, “Our reasons for shifting ‘Half-Blood Prince’ to summer are twofold: we know the summer season is an ideal window for a family tent pole release, as proven by the success of our last Harry Potter film, which is the second-highest grossing film in the franchise, behind only the first installment. Additionally, like every other studio, we are still feeling the repercussions of the writers’ strike, which impacted the readiness of scripts for other films—changing the competitive landscape for 2009 and offering new windows of opportunity that we wanted to take advantage of. We agreed the best strategy was to move ‘Half-Blood Prince’ to July, where it perfectly fills the gap for a major tent pole release for mid-summer.”

The official website for the film has been altered to reflect the change in release date. UPDATE: A new statement from Alan Horn, Warner Bros. president and chief operating officer has emerged; Quote:
"The picture is completely, absolutely, 100 percent on schedule, on time. There were no delays. I've seen the movie. It is fabulous. We would have been perfectly able to have it out in November."

UPDATE #2: Dan Fellman, Warner Bros. head of distribution, spoke early Sunday about the decision to change the release date for the sixth film. Quote:
The studio had been considering the date change for three or four weeks, "but it really didn't kind of get on the front burner until sometime within the last seven days," Dan Fellman, Warner Bros. head of distribution, said Sunday.

I've been offline for a few days due to some computer problems so I just found about about this!! I am so angry and depressed right now.   I was looking so forward to seeing this and now to have to suffer through almost a whole 'nother year, it's just unbearable  .

Hm, it use to be all the movies were going to be released in November since the first movie, until Ootp was in July. Now I guess they're going to be released in July from now on for the last 3 movies it looks like.

i was just thinking, with the move of HBP to July 2009, that will fall smack in the middle of shooting for Deathly Hallows doesnt it? the last report was that they will start shooting for DH in February 2009 and will likely last the whole year, since they will shoot DH1 and DH2 back to back.

i was just thinking of how the new release date will impact on their shooting schedule vs their promotional duties. press junkets can be awfully draining. i couldnt imagine them shooting the movie during the day then having to do interviews afterwards.

Hey, that means this is the first year that nothing officially HP related will come out in 3 years. If my memory serves me right, OotP came out in 2005 (or was it '04 o.O?), HBP 2006, and DH in 2007.

WTF!!! WTF!!! This is an outrage!!! I was soooooooooo looking forward to a summer release of HBP in Australia but now we have to wait and see it in winter!!! Every HP movie is a sucess, and it doesn't matter when they release it always brings in the bucks!!

those money hungry idiots, wb only cares anout making money. that is also why they are going to split the seventh book in 2 movies only to make more money. now we have to wait a whole year again only because they want to make a billion more!!!!!!! they really are greedy ********!!!
the reason they are doing this is because the dark night was also released in july and made a **** load of money and broke every record, so now they are hoping HBP will do the same next year for them.
