| | 'Goblet of Fire' choreographer talks dancing
Dance Spirit magazine, in its newest edition, features an interview Wayne McGregor, one of the choreographers who worked on ' Goblet of Fire'. The scan can be viewed here. Quote:
Rather than teaching a classic tango or waltz, he worked closely with director Mike Newell and composer Patrick Doyle to invent something new and slightly twisted. "I wanted to make dances that you would recognise, but were a little bizarre ... very Harry Potter."
He also mentions that the tango between Neville & Ginny was cut out of the movie.

*shrug* Probably because of time. It also might've made the film-audience think N/G were a couple and well, we know that isn't true so maybe they didn't want to be misleading seeing as films are all about the visual.

Yea I agree with that. It prob would get the audience wondering if there was anything between them. Its portraid differently in the book that didnt make us think that there was something going on between them.
Oh well. They kept everything that was important the the book and the rest of the series so I shouldn't really complain!! Still would of been nice though!

Yeah, it's emphasised that she went with him because it was her only chance (or so she thought) of going to the Ball. Plus she pities him. Those points would be hard to enforce onscreen. Or just too time-consuming considering this is 'Harry's journey'.

Well, I can't say I am exactly heart-broken at the lack of N/G, I was always kind of annoyed that Kloves decided to portray the night as one of sucsess for the couple. Especially since the book showed that it was actually fairly tragic, resulting in Ginny's feet getting stepped on several times.
Although with Kloves other idea to 'show but not use' Ginny in his scripts it would have been nice to atleast give the girl some screen time. Anyway, just don't get me started on the man, now isn't the time or place.

So far I think we've seen Ginny twice -- in the dancing lessons scene and the "I'm not an owl" scene. She probably doesn't have lines in either but at least she's there!

And the QWC and common room scene, not that I'm counting or anything, lol. Oh well, I can wait for OotP and HBP, I'm patient. I do suppose this was made before HBP's romance revelations. But I can still compain, I'm an internet user and that makes it my right!

LOL How could I have forgotten them? *headdesk* And in those two she HAS to speak (or at least scream!) Ginny is still fairly distant though in GoF, it's OotP where she really starts to come out of herself and hopefully they'll include that (if they know what's good for them!)

I am sorted disappointed that Yule Ball has so much formal dancing. I had it pictured more of a high school prom. So in my mind's eye I saw the kind of dancing you would see with rock music or slow dancing. Nothing like a waltz or tango crossed my mind.

Apparently it's not all formal. They do 'rock out' to the Weird Sisters remember I don't think it's going to look too formal considering the kids aren't supposed to be excellent dancers and even Dan said he found it hard. At the same time they simply HAD to make it different from typical highschool dance but at the same distance from classical and turn it into its own.

Sounds like the Yule Ball dancing is going to be great...I can't wait for it! It's a pity that the Ginny/Neville dancing scene will not be shown. That would've been very cute. I hope they put Fred and Angelina dancing! In the book it said that they were exuberantly dancing or something...and people were like, backing off. That would be so hilarious to watch! But I kinda doubt they'll have it...if they do, I'll be very very happy!
