Gary Oldman stands up for what is RIGHT! - Celebrity Hero

Summary:
Gary Oldman turned down 'Once in a life time' and 'Which he was so excitedely looking forward to' offer to stick up for the actors union and America!

Article:

Quote:
Gary Oldman's voice will not be heard in the upcoming Star Wars film [as reported earlier on June 15]. Gary was offered, and agreed to perform in the film, in fact he was excited and looking forward to the work.

The snag that made it impossible however is that this film is being made as a non-SAG (Screen Actor's Guild) film. George Lucas and gang agreed to hire Gary Oldman if he in fact would become a union buster, and perform work illegally overseas.

As a resident of America, and also a member of SAG, out of respect and solidarity with the other members, he could not and would not consider violating his union's rules.

Gary recently appeared as Sirius Black in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
Thanks to Wizardnews for the heads up. The news originally appeared at Douglas Management Group

The news appeared at Gary Oldman's Manager's Website.

"Ever wondered why our teenage hero Daniel Radcliffe idolized Oldman so much? You might have thought it was because he was such a great actor...Yes that is true but only partly. This article certainly has proved that. I think Mr. Gary Oldman deserves every high respect from all of us for his audacity. "

Keeper of Mr Tennant's specs

The Force.net say that they think that the website is a fake and that they know nothing official about him not being in the film.

but if it is true i think he is doing the right thing.

I heard that George Lucas prefers to work overseas cause he does not like Hollywood that much. I heard in the last Star Wars Nsync were supposed to have wanted parts but they couldnt because they were part of a union also. I suppose that Gary Oldman was standing for his rights.

If this is indeed true, then it just goes to show that not all actors/actresses are morally corrupt. Most people think that actors/actresses will do anything for a part. Go Gary for showing everyone that doing what is morally and legally correct is the right thing to do.

And what does this say about George Lucas' character?
