Post Further response to Potter 'unsuitable for kids'

Initially, Mairéad Scannell suggested in the Irish Examiner, that the Potter books were not suitable for children. Orlaith Ní Challanáin then wrote a response claiming she was wrong. Sorcha Healy has now done the same thing.

Quote:
Does she want us to go back to the ‘good old days’ when certain books were banned in Ireland as they were considered offensive to the Catholic church?

If this were to happen it would be two steps back in helping children to learn not just how to read but also how to enjoy the art of reading. This is political correctness out of control.
Quote:
To say Harry Potter is unsuitable for children is very patronising. Harry fights evil, but children know that very bad things happen in the world.

They are educated about the Holocaust and the real life tortures and horrors of the concentration camps.

^exaccerly, we know the truth, that is what matters and if others are too ignorant to find out for themselves then there is nothing we can do.

i do agree, it seems that those siding with hp not being evil and "unsuitable" have stronger arguments. i dont think its unsuitable, cuz it doesnt seem like it'll stop kids from knowing dangers and such in the world.

Snuggy!

Great for HP and Jo, it's time the ignorant population looks past all the negative and false articles that have been written and realize that HP is a book full of morals.

Why are poeple so negative about sucsses? It's the same when the exam results come out. Lets not celebrate the results but bash them! People are mad and in the case of Mrs rowling a bit enyous me thinks. But it great that people are defending her work. Harry Potter evil do these poeple read ?

I know its so stupid. These poeple who say Harry Potter is a bad influence or whatever haven't even picked up the book...no less read one page of it. Cause every one knows that J.K is trying to teach us spells so we can use witchtcraft or whatever in our daily lives. Come on, that sounds like the stupedist thing I've ever heard. And not to mention that there's prob I bunch of novels let alone books that are about the same thing and do you see any of the, being kicked around...of course not. It's just because J.K is such a big hit. Urgh...these people are fighting a losing battle before they even started...I meant he day that Harry Potter is restricted pigs will fly and people will be green!
