Bonnie Wright's full interview in Haute Muse magazine, where she discussed her work in the Harry Potter series as part of her promotion of Deathly Hallows: Part 2, getting ready to shoot The Philosophers (which completed filming nearly two weeks ago), and her future as an actor and filmmaker. Bonnie also relayed how much fashion impacted her life, how much she loves participating in photo shoots and the rare occasion she hit the catwalk earlier this year at London Fashion Week.

The Ginny Weasley actress revealed that her directorial debut, Separate We Come, Separate We Go, as part of her film school studies, will begin production at East Sussex, UK in November 2011. As I said before, this is one of my favorite photoshoots of Bonnie. She really does look like one of those old Hollywood beauties here. However, the third one bothers me a bit because she looks horribly old. Something's up with her lips there...

Anyways, I love her take on everything, especially her idea of a relaxing day by going out and exploring her neighborhood/London backyard instead of partying. However, there was one part of the interview that really bothered me:

I swear I don't mean to pick her apart, but this irks me to no end. No, Ginny is not quiet at all, and maybe that's why movie!Ginny went so wrong. I like Bonnie but she never did capture the fiery spirit of Ginny and a part of me always wondered if it's because she never understood her character... [:/]

I agree! Ginny was meant to be this fiery character but the movie potrays her as really awkward and quiet... Did Bonnie even read the books?

Hey guys, you have to remember it isn't really up to the actor in a way how the character is portrayed. The directors didn't feel she was a primary charachter and downsized the role which is sad. The only time she seemed firey and kind of scared the daylights out of her brothers and impressed Harry was when they were in the room of requirement in OOTP and she did the reducto curse. They looked at her like what was that.
But I agree they could have made her a little more outgoing especially with her brothers.
I'm just sayin.

Your comment just kind of leaves me speechless. (I think you actually do mean to pick her apart.) The Ginny character created by Kloves and Yates WAS quiet. That wasn't Bonnie's decision. It was the scriptwriter and the director. Do you honestly think that Bonnie could have made Ginny more talkative if she wanted to? She could have just started saying lines and telling jokes that were not in the script? You may not realize this, but that ain't how it works! Kloves and Yates gave Bonnie (as Ginny) so few lines and scenes. (What she was given, she did great with -- e.g., the scream at seeing "dead" Harry). I guarantee you that if Yates wanted Bonnie to act any differently in any scene, he would have just called Cut and done another take until he got what he wanted. If anybody did not get Ginny, it was Kloves and Yates.

Boy, if that is what an old woman looks like, I am all for it. She looks amazing! You do realize that Hermione is a fictional character and Bonnie Wright is an actual young woman?

I think Bonnie looks great in these. She and Emma have certainly grown up... I always feel funny saying that, though, because I'm younger than they are... I think I feel a bit older than them at times because I've been watching the Prisoner of Azkaban so much lately...

I do wish that Ginny had been a bit more fiery in the movies but I disagree with the people blaming Bonnie for that. I feel that she would have done a wonderful job showing that side of Ginny but it really wasn't under her control... One of the weaker arguments I have is that movies have to be within a certain time limit. I know it wouldn't take too much time to let her add in some jokes and let her show that side, though... I personally think they went wrong with not letting Ginny's feisty come out but it's not in our control and at least we get to see it in the wonderful books... I just think we shouldn't go blaming it on Bonnie. She did great with what she had to work with. I love her and I can't really picture any other actress as Ginny and even when I'm rereading the books I picture Bonnie saying all of her lines.

Can you blame her for saying that? With the screentime and lines they gave her, they made Ginny quiet and that's not her doing.

Also, read her interviews during HBP and Part 1 of DH, she describes Ginny in the books and has read them. It was when promoting Part 2 and got the role in The Philosophers that she started saying Ginny in general in the films is quiet. Which she is. She knows Ginny got screwed over in the films.

I don't know why my comment would leave you speechless…you say it as if I'm accusing Bonnie of horrid things. I absolutely don't mean to pick her apart because I could go down and list the numerous things wrong with movie!Ginny and tear Bonnie apart for all of that, which isn't her blame to take. As I've said before, I respect Bonnie very much but she wasn't the best as Ginny. I understand that the directors didn't know Ginny would be promoted to a lead role later and evolve with a brighter personality so they didn't look for those traits when she was originally cast. And I have never wanted Ginny to be recast because it wouldn't be the same without Bonnie being there. All I said was that I had a bit of a problem with her 'quiet' portrayal of Ginny at times. You're right; Yates has a lot of the blame, which is why I can't stand the latter HP movies and I've acknowledged that many times on SS, but Bonnie has her faults too. And Kloves is not the reason why. Like a lot of fans, I used to blame Kloves too but after I read the HBP script and later on parts of the DH 1 script, I realized Kloves retained Ginny as best as he could. While her lines were watered down because he was more Harry/Hermione, book!Ginny was still there. It was all about how the lines were delivered that made all the difference. Plus, she struggles horribly with conveying facial expressions. She’s always got this :/ face on most of the time. So maybe Yates didn't call her out for it because he didn't care the Ginny's storyline, but Bonnie could have put in more passion into her lines/expressions. I'll give you this though…Bonnie did improve a great deal in DH 2, especially the "I know line," after the kiss and when she screamed after seeing Harry’s body; however, I don't know if it was redeemable for the whole franchise…

You're absolutely right about her screen time/lines, but I just feel like if Bonnie really was a good Ginny and understood the character enough, she would be able to make her limited screen time to work for her in any way possible, like other HP actors. Although, I do give credit to her in DH 2…that was one of her better portrayals of Ginny very similar to the book. I was shocked when that scream came out of her. :lol: And I never ever meant to insinuate that she didn't read the books, because I've seen her interviews as well. It's just in the interviews Bonnie and Ginny seem very much similar…quiet, which is why I’m wondering if she ever really got who Ginny was. She says Ginny is fiery but she never acts it, which may or may not be the director's fault. That's what I was trying to say up there…not that I hate Bonnie and her portrayal of Ginny overall. I swear I'm not trying to be mean to Bonnie... :lol:

I don't think people are aware of how much you love Bonnie as Ginny other times. :lol: You forgot to state that the reason you're so picky with Bonnie is because Ginny is one of your favorite characters and you're a huge Harry/Ginny fan as well. You should have stated that clearly more or less. It seems as if everyone is thinking you're a Bonnie hater. :P Really, people, she's not trying to be mean to Bonnie...she loves her! :xd:

And I agree with you. Bonnie has her issues with her acting. She isn't perfect and her delivery is very off compared to the vibrant Ginny from the books but other than that I'd still want her in the role, just like I know you're trying to say. ;)

Some day there is going to be a psychological study of Bonnie/Ginny haters. What was it about the actress or the character that drove them so crazy? What made them so blind to reality? It should be interesting.

I really think Bonnie did a great job in the Harry Potter films. She knows the books really well and her character, Ginny. I wish they showed the more true side of Ginny and made her not as quiet. That's the films though.

She reminds me of the classic Hollywood actress like Catherine Hepburn, Ginger Rodgers, and the like. A true Classic Beauty!!

I totally agree. It was not her fault. She did the best she could gven the direction & script. True Ginny as well as the other characters were all short changed. Its a shame. Go Bonnie! Now this photo shoot, wow! I am impressed with how gorgeous she looks. I think she is making strides to prove that she isnt so young but does have a mature look to herrrrrrrr.

I have to say Looneybird, there are somethings you are saying that sounds to many fans as if you are still blaming her. Do not say, "I dont mean to" or "Im just saying". The more you make your point the more it seems that you still blame her for not being a colorful Ginny. Again, if only the director had read the books and the writer had stopped wishing for a H/Hr scenario. I think Bonnie did more than enough on her end to endorse the film and say all she could about her Ginny character. I only wish that TPTB would have taken a stand and fought a little harder for not just Ginny but for all the characters who were shortchanged. How can Yates make a big deal out of the Cho kiss & Hermione kiss but nothing for Harry and Ginny? That part made me mad.

Oh I didn't think she's a Bonnie hater. lol I know she likes her I was just pointing out she did the best she could. The only movie I thought she could have done better in some of the scenes was HBP but I thought in general she did the best she could with what she had and what the director wanted for her as Ginny.

In the films Ginny was best shown in GoF, which wasn't much but we got a look at snarky, canon Ginny.
