Warner Bros. released the very plot-detailed and spoiler-filled trailer for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, including what may be the final battle between the good - led by Newt Scamander - against the titular Gellert Grindelwald. The trailer can be
watched here, and a breakdown of it is below.
The first half minute of the trailer takes a look back at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, during Newt Scamander's formative years. In the opening scene, a young Newt (Joshua Shea) is fighting off boggarts in Dumbledore's now Defense Against the Dark Arts class. Notice the young Slytherin girl behind Newt - no doubt a teenage Leta Lestrange.
Quote:
Young Newt: I’m scared, Professor Dumbledore.
Dumbledore: Everyone is scared of something.
Female Hufflepuff student: Riddikulus!
Dumbledore: Newt, you’re next. … That’s an unusual one. What Mr. Scamander fears above everything else is …
Young Newt: Having to work in an office, sir.
Dumbledore: Go ahead, Newt.
Young Newt: Riddikulus!

After the opening credits roll in, the trailer focuses on a moving statue of a woman, and one Tina Goldstein, with awesome leather jacket, lurking beneath.

The next scene jumps to a wide shot of Circus Arcanus, and many of its inhabitants and visitors. Including...
Quote:
One Credence Barebone, who's looking at a poster for the Circus rather curiously. Given clips already released, it's presumed that Credence - the Obscurus - eventually does join the troupe.

The trailer them jumps to a quick shot of Dumbledore and Newt apparating off a Double-decker bus.
Quote:
And another familiar magical object returns - Dumbledore's own invention - the deluminator!

Here, a glimpse of what one can presume is the MACUSA prison is revealed, as Gellert Grindelwald is being carted away to jail in New York City (the LEGO set for this scene confirmed that Grindelwald does escape early on in the movie from MACUSA, after fighting off President Seraphina Picquery).
Quote:
Here, Grindelwald speaks to an amphitheatre full of avid listeners about his views and goals.
Grindelwald: Magic blooms only in rare souls. Still we skulk in shadows. But the old ways serve us no longer.
Quote:
Quick shot of Maledictus near the Eiffel Tower.
Quote:
And another shot of Newt protecting Tina from an incoming lethifold in Paris.
Quote:
One of the more curious shots in the trailer - of Grindelwald eyeing Credence from his window. The first Fantastic Beasts movie proved that Grindelwald wanted Credence for his dark Obscurus power - has he finally gotten several steps closer to taking control?
Quote:
A quick shot of Krall, one of Grindelwald's henchmen, with what can presume to be more of Grindelwald's followers.
Quote:
And of Abernathy, once Tina and Queenie's supervisor at MACUSA in the first Fantastic Beasts movie, but now someone who may be
more heinous that fans anticipated.
Quote:
A suspicious shot of Vinda Rosier, who looks to be Grindelwald's right-hand woman, glancing shiftily to an unknown figure behind her (Credence maybe?).
Quote:
Next shot of Credence walking quickly with Maledictus through Paris.
Quote:
Here's the most curious shot of an elderly witch walking through a glass-domed building with some creepy-looking cats, with massive glowing eyes. Undoubtedly not very friendly.
Quote:
Newt apparates from a Muggle London street to a rooftop, which he's possibly looking for Dumbledore (as shown in the first trailer).
Quote:
Guess the days of socks and heartache over his lost sister and family are no longer Dumbledore's greatest desires, eh? Or of course they may have changed over time, but here it does show that the younger Dumbledore still held feelings for his former friend and crush, Grindelwald.
Quote:
In true Dumbledore fashion, he leaves others to do his dirty work for him. In this case, it's Newt who has to go after Grindelwald. At least Newt's not an orphaned boy left to deal with his own crap?
Dumbledore: I take it you’ve heard the rumors. Grindelwald had a vision that he will rise to dominance over the wizarding world
Newt: So you’re asking me to help hunt him down.
Dumbledore: I can’t move against Grindelwald. It has to be you. In your shoes, I’d probably refuse to. And It’s late. Good evening, Newt.
Newt: Oh, come on.
Quote:
Newt's oh-so favorite magical creature returns in Paris - the niffler. And, as Ezra Miller teased during the SDCC panel, there will be many nifflers in the second installment.
Quote:
Not 100% sure on this one, but this could be something related to Bunty, who's an assistant to Newt (as actress Victoria Yeates confirmed a while ago). This might be her looking at one of Newt's rather wet enclosures in his magical suitcase.
Quote:
Here's another shot of Grindelwald lurking about all Grindelwald-like in Paris.
Quote:
Looks like a battle's about to go down here, and at a mausoleum in a cemetery, or maybe at the amphitheater featured earlier?
Quote:
Looks like Tina and Newt are helping Leta escape from this oddly-shaped building with moving cabinets, fleeing from... somewhat? Maybe this is part of the French Ministry of Magic?
Quote:
Tina saves her buddy Jacob from some large spectral being floating in the air, looking like a fiery dragon-type creature.
Quote:
Queenie looks horrified/scared/traumatized by whatever her Legilimens powers are telling her. Has Grindelwald - a fellow Legilimens - tried to get into her mind?
Quote:
Newt, Tina, and who might be Theseus, look to be fighting off the massive ball of light/fire from the previous shot.
Quote:
Ummm, looks like a chimera (though apparently a Chinese-based creature) or something similar got loose from Newt's suitcase and he's trying to get it back. Well, good luck with that super-dangerous and killer class-five beast.
Quote:
Newt and Leta have a quick word in what is probably the midst of battle.
Leta Lestrange: You’re too good Newt. You never met a monster you couldn’t love.
Newt: Credence?
Quote:
Credence tries to fight off one of Grindelwald's men the only way he knows how.
Quote:
Grindelwald escapes from MACUSA's prison the only way a villain knows how - a thestral-drawn carriage, of course.
Quote:
Looks like we're back in that amphitheater yet again - going to assume this where the finale of the movie is set - and Grindelwald is taunting the Scamander brothers, who look on.
Grindelwald: Mr. Scamander, do you think Dumbledore will mourn for you?
Quote:
We finish off on a light note, courtesy of everyone's favorite No-maj, Jacob, who meets the famous Nicolas Flamel...
Jacob Kowalski: Oh. Are you … Are you a ghost?
Nicolas Flamel, No, I’m alive. But I’m an alchemist and therefore immortal.
Jacob: Oh.
Flamel: Nicholas Flamel.
Jacob: Jacob Kowalski. You don’t look a day over 375.
