Fantastic Beasts: Cases From The Wizarding World game released, producer interview
Fantastic Beasts: Cases From The Wizarding World, the free-to-play mobile game from Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, developed by Mediatonic, is now available worldwide for download on the App Store for iPhone and iPad and Google Play for Android devices.
SnitchSeeker interviewed Mary Casey, producer on “Fantastic Beasts: Cases from the Wizarding World”, with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, about the new game, J.K. Rowling's involvement, and its tie to both Fantastic Beasts and Harry Potter series.
Quote:
SnitchSeeker: How and when did the idea of the game come about?
Mary Casey: As a team, we’re always thinking about what kind of experiences and adventures fans of the Wizarding World want to go on, what aspects of the world they are most excited by … can we give fans a unique experience through games that they can’t get anywhere else?
With this game, we knew we wanted to let our fans put themselves into the Wizarding World, and we knew we really wanted to showcase the amazing beasts from J.K. Rowling’s 2001 book, Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them. Those were our initial “big ideas”. From there, much of the design was fairly organic. We’re all big fans, so we had a lot of great meetings where we threw around ideas and discussed different aspects of what would end up in the game such as casting spells, brewing potions, solving mysteries and encountering beasts.
SnitchSeeker: Did you have to seek approval from J.K. Rowling?
Casey: We work super closely with some amazing people from J.K.Rowling’s team to ensure authenticity to the world, and to the Harry Potter books and movies.
SnitchSeeker: Did J.K. Rowling supply any information about characters, animals, locations, and such?
Casey: We’ve tried to stay as true and as authentic to the Wizarding World as possible, in every aspect of the game. All of the beasts in the game are featured in J.K.Rowling’s Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them book, and we’ve been able to visualize some of these beasts for the first time in the game, and that’s incredibly exciting.
Fans will definitely recognize some iconic locations from J.K.Rowling’s writing, such as the Ministry Courtroom, Hogsmeade… I don’t want to give too much away!
SnitchSeeker: How much of the Harry Potter Wizarding World is featured in the game, and how much of Fantastic Beasts will be in there?
Casey: This game is set in the Ministry of Magic, and draws a lot of inspiration from Harry Potter’s Wizarding World. At the same time, we’ve worked really closely with J.K.Rowling’s team and the theatrical team on “Fantastic Beasts” to get the look, feel and behavior of the beasts correct.
I think there’s something for every fan in the game, with lots of little nods to both Harry Potter’s Wizarding World and the world of “Fantastic Beasts”.
SnitchSeeker: Will the game include characters from the Harry Potter and/or Fantastic Beasts series? Is it set in the 1920s?
Casey: The game includes an all new set of characters who work in the Ministry of Magic, as well as the muggles, witches and wizards you encounter as you track down and solve all of the beastly mysteries!
SnitchSeeker: Will the game expand as more Fantastic Beasts films are released and new characters/locations are revealed?
Casey: I can’t say too much but we have some really fun and interesting new cases in development; I can’t wait to reveal them!

Inspired by J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World, in this new hidden object game, players investigate curious cases as a new recruit with the Ministry of Magic, Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures, Beast Division. Searching for clues at locations including Diagon Alley, the Leaky Cauldron and Hogsmeade, players report to the scene of mysterious incidents with a magical creature at the center of every case.
Following the trail of evidence, players uncover hidden objects, analyze evidence, cast spells and brew potions, piecing together clues to identify and relocate the magical creature in question.
Players can share their wizarding world experience with friends and fellow recruits by logging into Facebook to see each other’s progress and lend a helping hand.
I'm already playing with it, of course!
It's very well done, even if it took me a while to understand where I have to tap! XD And... there's a small bug in one of the first scenes: a Beater Bat is called Bat... it drove me crazy, seriously! I couldn't found that Bat, when the hint focused me on the Beater's Bat... lol (little note: in Italian Bat is only the animal!)

haha yeah started playing it today too
it is quite fun, and very pretty to look at. its also got that nostalgic feel good Harry Potter soundtrack so overall the gaming experience is pretty up there for a Potterhead.
it does guzzle up a lot of energy though, both in game (what with 20 energy orbs per case? sheesh) as well as on the battery. if youre a patient person this isnt too bad since the game does earn energy back, but if not you can buy rubies and that could get you to buy energy orbs.
theres also a way to connect this game to your facebook page to ask fellow players for free energy (you know that old trick), i havent tried that out though because i dont know of anyone else who plays this
