Now that the first teaser trailer for
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them has been released - and still while the movie is in mid-production (which is rare), here's a breakdown and first looks at the characters and 1920s New York City backdrop.
First, the official poster released, with Newt Scamander standing at the MACUSA entrance. This time it's shows the entirety of the entrance and the scope of the high ceilings and walls that make up the magical aspect of the Woolworth Building in New York.
And now for the trailer itself.
The trailer starts off with an ominous incantation of Lumos Maxima from one Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne), which then reveals itself to the Warner Bros. logo...
The first clip we see ever from this film series features Tina Goldstein standing before a large group of people, holding Newt's trademark suitcase.
Quote:
Tina: Yesterday, a wizard entered New York with a case. A case full of magical creatures. And, unfortunately, some have escaped.
She stands on top of a pentagram insignia on the ground of the room, and looks at a looming figure...
There stands actress Carmen Ejogo, who has been confirmed to play the mysterious character 'Seraphina'. From what the EW article stated earlier, the logo behind her is that of MACUSA's, with a phoenix and star-spangled banner placed together. She may be a top figure at MACUSA, though this is not known yet. Tina herself plays a MACUSA employee who gets demoted for 'doing the right thing.'
We get a look at 1920s New York City here, as well as Newt's suitcase (presumably being carried by the magizoologist himself).
Here's the first look at Colin Farrell at Auror Percival Graves, standing before a torn-apart building in New York City. Whether it was a magical spell, or a magical beast, that tore it down, will soon be revealed.
Newt sits on a bed (probably at Tina and Queenie's apartment) and checks through his enchanted suitcase, which holds magical beasts and their habitats.
Tina looks over at Newt and asks if he opened his suitcase - the reason all chaos began in New York to begin with.
The final scene shows Newt, with Jacob and suitcase running behind him, casting a spell on a New York City street, right outside, possibly in front of a No-Maj or few. Someone (who sounds weirdly like Dame Maggie Smith's Professor McGonagall) shouts "MISTER SCAMANDER!"
And cue the logos...
Complete with a darker version of 'Hedwig's Theme.' Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them's first installment, written by
Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling, hits theaters and IMAX this November.
