Exclusive: SnitchSeeker interviews Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke

SnitchSeeker caught up with Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke at the film's premiere in London yesterday. She filled us in on why she felt Robert Pattinson was right for the role of Edward and how negotiations are going for the final book in the series, Breaking Dawn.

SnitchSeeker (SS): Hello Catherine, how are you?

Catherine Hardwicke (CH): I’m good, I’m good.

SS: You must be excited to see the movie come this far.

CH: It’s pretty crazy to see all this, yes.

SS: It has been reported that Twilight has had the biggest opening weekend for a female director. How does that feel?

CH: It feels awesome. It feels like we are breaking down boundaries. Obama got elected; females are getting more powerful so hopefully all minorities will break through.

SS: You must be quite worried as the film was originally a book and you were asked to depict how you think it should look. Were you concerned that you might upset Stephenie Meyer?

CH: Well I worked with the writer, so she definitely was very involved with it and she is even in the movie, so she was supportive of it. I want everyone out there to like it, too.

SS: So what made you choose a British actor, Robert Pattinson, to be the main character, a vampire?

CH: I’ve seen quite a few vampires around here tonight … We couldn’t find the perfect person that had that other worldly quality that looked like he had been alive for 109 years, and all that intensity and torture. And really when Robert came in to audition with Kristen on my bed, the kissing scene, you could just feel the magic, the sexual tension – it came alive.

SS: The last Harry Potter book – Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - is being split into two films due to the book's large size; do you think that the last book in the Twilight series – Breaking Dawn - should be split into two films as well?

CH: Well that’s all getting figured out as we speak.
A million thanks to our partner site The Daily Snitcher for lending us their roving reporter Stefan, who braved the -1C/30F temperatures despite having the flu, to cover the London premiere on behalf of SnitchSeeker.

Breaking Dawn in two movies? Huh. I don't know how I feel about that. xD

But then again, it isn't like that one if my favourite of the entire saga, so it doesn't really matter to me. Much.

Great report, guys! =D

Ginevra_P 12-04-2008 09:06 PM

Huh. Thanks, I'll be sure to keep an eye out for her when we go to the pre-premier here tomorrow...

Haha. Apparently it doesn't ACTUALLY come out in Poland until January or something, but it's showing for 2 days tomorrow and Saturday... at least, that's what I've been told, not sure how true it is tho.

I remember seeing Stephenie Meyer in the movie. She was buying a drink. I saw her and went, "hey, isn't that Stephenie Meyer?" to my friend, who said, "What? Where? Oh...really?" lol

Breaking Dawn in two movies? Okay...I can't really think where they could end one half and start the next...whatever, it's not my decision.

lotrfrk11 12-05-2008 02:39 AM

OH PLEASE GOD. I pray to GOD Breaking Dawn is one movie, there is SO much that can be cut from that book.

Tommehbell 12-05-2008 02:56 AM

Yeah there is a lot that can be cut from Breaking Dawn and make it one movie. But not Jacobs parts! Those were funny and i want to see him launch that dog dish at Rosalie's head

But great interview:)
