Evanna Lynch shares her thoughts on Luna's possible casting in 'Cursed Child', more
Evanna Lynch opened up about her thoughts on the upcoming Harry Potter and the Cursed Child plays opening this summer, and how she would feel about someone else portraying Luna Lovegood (as an adult).
The actress chatted with SnitchSeeker on Wednesday inside Universal Studios Hollywood's the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, and revealed what she thought of the ever-expanding Wizarding World from J.K. Rowling, including Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and even joked about which Harry Potter character she'd never want to play. All of that can be read and seen below.
SnitchSeeker: Evanna, how’s the Wizarding World been for you?
Evanna Lynch: It’s been great, if not for this [Bertie Botts] bean (sticks out blue tongue). Blue ones are good. Yeah, it’s been lovely. Nice to see everyone again. And to see all the new features we have. I think the frog choir got a more hip-hop vibe – just FYI.
SnitchSeeker: Since Fantastic Beasts and Cursed Child is coming out, what are your thoughts about the new expansion to the Wizarding World?
Evanna: I think it’s great. It’s more opportunity for fans to enjoy it. We always think, “Oh everyone’s been to it.” But no, there are some people who haven’t been to it. It’s a new opportunity for them. And I think it’ll introduce more people to the books. I’ve seen that in bringing friends here who don’t necessarily love it as much – not that they don’t love it, they don’t know it – and they come here and then they want to be a fan. They want to be Hogwarts students.
SnitchSeeker: On a personal note, they might cast Luna Lovegood in the [Cursed Child] play? What are your thoughts about someone else playing her?
Evanna: I believe they might. I remember my agent telling me that a client went for ‘older Ginny’ and I was like (makes grunting sound). I don’t know if we can have a Ginny without Luna. I’m excited for whoever the actress is whose playing her. I hope she’s weird and wonderful. I hope I get to meet her.
SnitchSeeker: What do you hope to see in the new story, plotwise?
Evanna: I hope to see relationship drama. I always like the relationship stuff because it made it very human and real. The magic stuff was all new to us and wonderful, and the whole defeating the dark forces was like a piece of the story, but I love seeing just the real life and the fact that you have ups and downs. I don’t want to go so far as Rupert and wish that they’d get divorced. But yeah, that and I would like to see – and we will see – in Fantastic Beasts more of the creatures and what they do. Because that’s one of my other passions – always the animals – just to see where J.K .Rowling’s imagination goes with that stuff.
SnitchSeeker: Have you had a chance to visit the [Fantastic Beasts] set?
Evanna: No, I haven’t. I don’t think I want to though, because I’ve gone this far without being spoiled. And if I’m going to be in the movie, then I’m not going to visit the set.
SnitchSeeker: You guys are always asked which other Harry Potter character you’d like to play. Can you think of one you’d never in a million years want to play?
Evanna: Oh gosh … (laughs) No, I can’t say that. (thinks) Um, what’s a boring one?
SnitchSeeker: Wormtail?
Evanna: He sucks, but you get to turn into an animal.
PR rep: Greyback?
Evanna: He’s still got an edge to him. Somebody just really boring.
SnitchSeeker: Sprout?
Evanna: Sprout! (laughs) Yeah, Sprout. She’s pretty boring. Plants? C’mon, you’re a wizard. Do more than plants.
Universal Studios Hollywood's Wizarding World of Harry Potter will open this Thursday morning, starting with a special event at 6:15 am (which SnitchSeeker will cover live) and the attraction's debut at 7am. Evanna, along with Tom Felton, James and Oliver Phelps, and Warwick Davis (all of whom SnitchSeeker interviewed in the park - those segments will be up shortly) will headline Thursday's ceremony.
