Emma Watson
spoke to Vogue UK about her experience shooting the spread for
Italian Vogue last month. She admits her fears about the photoshoot, how important it was to her (especially comparing her skills as a model to that of an actress), and the fact that she was elated to have been treated solely as a model by the photographer, Mark Seliger.
Quote:
"The Italian Vogue photo shoot was a fascinating experience. I was very excited to work with Vogue for the first time, but also to be given the chance to model couture," she explains. "Each dress was so special and important (because it is one of a kind), and we only had a short time to shoot each one before it had to go elsewhere to be worn or shot by someone else. This meant the shoot had a real momentum. And the jewelry to match each dress came with its own security guards."
As glamorous as that sounds, however, apparently it has its disadvantages.
"I was terrified of ripping, getting mud (as we shot outdoors), cake, a prop, or anything on the dresses!" she tells us. "I felt like I was learning a whole new set of rules to a new game - just like shooting a film. Mark encouraged me to become a different person or character for each photograph so they all tell different stories. So, in the end, I combined two loves: art/fashion and acting."
She adds: "I enjoyed the fact that Mark treated me like he would have done any other model and pushed to get the best out of me. I learnt a lot and have found a whole new respect for the hard work models put into their work and for couture. A love affair has begun."
UPDATE: Emma was
interviewed by Vogue during the Christopher Kane fashion show in London
yesterday, where she discussed her love of fashion, and what future shows she intends to see at Paris's Fashion Week, which will run from September 28 - October 5, 2008.
Quote:
"I've always been really interested in art and fashion. I've only ever been to one fashion show before - the Paris-Londres Chanel show - but this season I'm seeing this one,
Giles Deacon tonight and then I'm going to Paris to see Balenciaga, Chanel and McQueen. I really can't wait."
Emma admits that she finds walking on the runway "a bit intimidating," though is "enjoying [herself] too" at the event.
