| | |  Emma Watson talks new haircut & its liberating experience with Entertainment Weekly
One of the photo shoots and features Emma Watson took part in to promote Deathly Hallows this week in New York was for Entertainment Weekly's Fall Movie Preview special, where she will be the cover model. Emma talked about getting her now-famous haircut earlier this week, how liberating it felt, and the fact that due to Harry Potter filming the past ten years, she was unable to fulfill that teenage prerogative. The new photo can be seen in our galleries.  Quote:
“Oh my God, it was the most liberating thing! The stylist just grabbed the back of my hair and took a whole ponytail of hair out. It felt amazing. I love it.”

“I missed all that experimentation that most teenagers go through,” she says. “I’ve wanted to do this since I was about 16, so as soon as I had the chance I was like, ‘Right. This is it.’”
UPDATE: Entertainment Weekly released another new photo of Emma with her haircut, as well as Emma's thought process into getting the cut, which she admitted she waited on after completing the Harry Potter films.  Quote:
She could have cut her hair immediately, but she decided to wait a bit. “It didn’t feel right then; I needed a break.”
“It was weird. My hairdresser was like, ‘When are you going to freak out?’ Most people cry or go into shock,’” she says. “But I was very calm. I knew it was the right thing.”
“I went to the salon alone and I left alone,” she says. “I knew everyone was going to have an opinion, and I couldn’t deal with it. I have to get myself into a good place to deal with people saying things like, ‘It’s terrible! She looks like a boy!’” Says the actress, laughing, “My dad already said that to me, actually. He said, ‘You’re not Audrey Hepburn yet, darling.’”
“He’s like that. I think the best I’ve ever had out of him was before a premiere when he said I ‘scrub up alright.’ When people ask me how I keep myself grounded, there’s the answer.”
The Fall Movie Preview issue will be out later this month; if anyone can get scans, feel free to send them in. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, which she is promoting in the feature, will be out November 19, 2010 and July 15, 2011.  | |

Fortunately for those who don't like the hairstyle, it's only hair. She didn't change as a person, only in appearance. I think she pulls it off well. I wouldn't have done it, but that's why I'm not her!

Now I totally understand why she cut her hair. I think every teen wants to do something liberating but she couldn't cut her hair at that time so she did it now. At first I didn't like it but now it actually looks much better

She's a beautiful girl, and I understand that it is her hair. She will always look gorgeous. And while it's not horrendous, I prefer her with longer hair.
I'd LOVE to know what Rupert and Dan really think about it, though.
