| | Emma Watson talks Half-Blood Prince, Deathly Hallows, Dan Radcliffe & more
In another interview while promoting her film The Tale of Despereaux, Emma Watson spoke candidly about the Harry Potter films and how they have impacted her on a personal level, including Half-Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows; her life in the spotlight; her options for university next year; and how she manages to keep normal, amongst other things. Quote: Q: What's the best - and worst - thing about being famous?
EW: The best thing about being involved in Harry Potter, is that you can make a six year old girl or boy's day by giving them a handshake and it's so easy. It costs me so little to make someone incredibly happy so that's amazing and I've walked away and thought 'God I'm so lucky to be in a position that people are that excited to meet me'. It's amazing.
The downside is that the level of curiosity into your life means that it becomes quite intrusive and the level of criticism is hard to deal with sometimes. It can make you really insecure. Q: Do you have the same problem as your co-star Daniel Radcliffe with the fans not wanting you to grow up?
EW: Like Peter Pan. Yeah, I think they do... I think it's gonna take a while to shake off the British press. Every headline I'm in, there is some reference to magic or broom stick or witches or whatever! So it will take a while. The books and the films are loved so much that people don't want to let go, they don't want it to end but unfortunately I'm growing up, I'm not gonna be young forever. Q: What can you say about the next "Harry Potter" movie?
EW: It's more of a romantic comedy; it has quite love interest in it. I think the humour is very good in it; they really got that in this one. Harry is [Ginny]'s first kiss and it really develops their relationship, very set it up for the final chapter. It's good... Q: Is it true that you didn't want to take it on?
EW: No, it isn't (laugh)! It just take a while for scheduling because I was doing my A levels so they had to kind of work around that. It was a little bit difficult but no... Q: How do you feel about shooting the last "Harry Potter", are you emotional about it or do you feel like it's good timing?
EW: I think I will feel emotional about it in some ways because I spent most than half my life doing it, you know and the crew is like a second family to me; so it will be very emotional. But in the same time, I'm excited because it frees my time to go do other projects. I'm ready to go do something else now, it has been a while! Q: Do you ever wonder what your life would have been if it wasn't for being cast in Harry Potter?
EW: It's become so much a part of my life that it's hard to imagine now what my life would have been like. Sometimes I wish my life were simpler but, for most of the time, I feel like I'm the luckiest girl in the world. Q: What's your next career challenge?
EW: I guess I'm eternally going to be Hermione! My biggest challenge will be convincing people that I can be someone else.
The Tale of Despereaux is in theatres now; Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will be released July 17, 2009. |

I think she needs to relax a bit about being Hermione, I mean she is young enough that once it's over, she will be able to be known for other roles.

She said it well, people just don't want to let go. It will take awhile probably but she's still young.

I think it's just so difficult, because during promotions and interviews...all people want to know about is "what's it like" "how do you deal"...I think it really has a lot to do with the expectation that you should have a "crazy" period when your famous. I don't know...I'm so impressed with the 3 stars. I can't imagine the professional pressure to be starring in such a huge franchise, and the kind of money it makes, with the kind of audience it has. They have a lot to maintain, so kudos to Emma for being forthcoming and (hopefully) as honest as she can be.

Um ... no he's not. Does that mean they are cutting Dean Thomas's role out and the scene in the hallway where Ron and Harry catch him and Ginny?

well, the trio will always be known for harry ron and hermione,. even whne their 60! but, i they are all pretty younge, and can get other roles, and will be known for them as well, its nothing to do with age.. there r so many older actors out there, who r extremly famouse and lved!
but, other then that.. yay Emma!! she is so awsome! and i bet the pressure is terrible, and its great how she can see the bright side!

It is easy enough for everyone to say she needs to relax about being Hermione....they are not in her shoes by a long shot. I am sure that, as a good actress, she will be able to expand her acting resume as long as she doesnt allow herself to be typecast,

I don't think people have any problem with Dan growing up, maybe with Emma and Rupert yes, but since Daniel is acting on stage people are starting to see him like an adul actor, specially in the theatre world.

She's totally right about the press ALWAYS making referances to wizards etc in headlines, like 'Emma Watson casts a spell' and 'Emma looks wizard'
No wonder that gets a bit tedious after a while!

| I think people aren't as hard about Dan growing up is because he's been doing a lot more than the others - Rupert has only done Driving Lessons, right? He's working on cherrybomb and something else I heard, but overall not much. And emma is just starting to get into other stuff. Everyone has watched Dan grow because he's let them see it by doing how much he does.
Especially with Equus. I mean, look at that! It's hard NOT to see he's grown
Good interview. Yeah, I didnt get that... Ginny says she's made out with a couple of guys... or at least Dean. Wth? How much more can they cut out from the book? o_0
Or she just forgot when she was responding to that. It happens to the best of people.
She's doing pretty well, even with various pressures. She needs to lighten up about the whole being-Hermione thing a bit, there will be other parts out there after all... she's not JUST Hermione |

Look at Judy Garland. She has done tons of films, but she's still known as Dorothy Gale in The Wizard of Oz. What about Haley Joel Osmond. He's still known as the little boy in The Sixth Sense. It happens.

I totally agree with you. Unlike many child/young actors, Emma has a great head on her shoulders. She is very level-headed and mature for her age. I'm glad that her parents have been a big influence in her life. Jodie Foster may be a good example who was a child actor, went to Princeton, and returned to acting. I agree with Emma that being in the spotlight takes away her privacy. Hopefully, she can move on and take on other projects after HP. Good luck to her.
