| | Emma Watson: "My biggest fear is getting stereotyped." The Times of India has a new interview with Emma Watson in which she discusses her role in the Potter films as Hermione and how that may affect her career in the future. Note: The article quotes Emma swearing. However the profanity does not appear in the original newspaper article (which can be viewed here.) Quote:
"My biggest fear is getting stereotyped. I want to do other things. I would hate to have another actress in the role (of Hermione). There is so much of me in her. Of course, JK Rowling wrote the character, but, in film terms, I had a part in creating her".
Quote:
"I am very careful to separate the two — there is Hermione, there is Emma. There is a professional life and a private life. I never mix the two."

I know some of you won't agree with me, so don't take offense. These are just my thoughts. There are many articles that call Emma the star, but the press doesn't know crap! You have to ask the fan, because this is who makes or breaks a person. Emma will be typecast, and so will Dan Radcliffe, and hey as much as I love Rupert, who knows, it could happen. Gotta be fair here. But, even David Thewlis who plays Lupin said that after working with the trio, he thinks that Rupert Grint is such a natural actor, and will be the one of the three to really go somewhere with his career.
I don't dislike Emma Watson, but I honestly think because she's a girl, Rupert and even Dan's performances are overlooked by the media. Also, let me say that I don't think Emm is a bad actress, but saying she is going to be this huge star, oh my she has not proved that at all with the Potter films. Take somebody like Dakota Fanning and put her up against Emma Watson. Come on, do you really have to think about who is the better actress! Okay, I will get off of my soapbox now.

It would be very wierd to see anyone else playing Hermione as it would be the same with Harry and Ron. I still wonder though if she has time for boys or any type of realtionship. She plays a great Hermione and no one could replace her.

it would be so weird to see someone other than her as hermione.. as i always say, i don't think i'll even watch the movies if one of the four (Rupert/dan/emma/tom) leaves.

good for her - emma is part of hermione, and hermione is a part of emma - i would hate to see anyone else take her role. Let's face it - who can truly say (after watching the films) that when we try to imagine hermione we don't see emma - whether that's good or bad, i don't know - but it does mean they are part of each other :p

If they ever change the cast I am going to be so angry... but I can see her being sterotyped too... because if she does do all 7 films you are kind of stuck in a rut... for then until forever... think about other people who have done even 2 or 3 of a film you always think back to those 2 or 3 films....

Althought I can't imagine the pressure of being a teen star, Emma comes across a bit harsh in the article. She almost seems as if she no longer enjoys playing the role of Hermonie (even thougth she did not come right out and say such). I think that it would be a real shame if the three Potter characters did not continue their roles all the way through the end of the serious. Even though the movies are so different from the books Daniel, Rupert, and Emma are the images that come to mind when we read Harry Potter. Who could possible imagine different characters! I personally would be dissappointed if the three don't continue their role until the very end.

It's only really the adults I do that for. For Harry, Ron and Hermione I always see the characters I first imagined when I first read the books. Which was to say several years before the films emerged.

My point Kaz was I don't do that. Next to none of the actors come to mind when I read the books because I formed an image of them years before the films and it hasn't changed since.

Stereotype is also the correct word. It's actually better. You cant be typecasted really with Hermione because she's a one-of-a-kind. However there is the brainy-know-it-all STEREOTYPE to be wary of. Like someone else said, Kate, that character she was rumoured to play in Airborn, was very much like Hermione, in which case that would be a stereotype and possibly a bad move.

While I can't say that I picture the actors when I read the books (I still have the images of them in my mind from when I firts read the books), I would be disappointed to see anyone else play her. I don't really see a big career for her in acting. She is good in her role, I think, but nothing spectacular- I don't see her bringing herself into the character very much, she's mostly just doing what's comfortable and scripted.

While I love Emma Watson in the role of Hermione, I think that it would be weird to see her in another role. I understand that she doesn't want to get stereotyped though. I mean, look at the cast of Friends, they played those parts for 10 years and some of them are still playing the same role. It's scary to get stuck in one role.
