| | Draco Malfoy - So Good at Being Bad
In the Nickelodeon Magazine, Tom Felton was asked why he thought Draco was someone people "loved to hate".
He reckons Draco is a bully because his father bullies him and most bullies have been bullied once in their lives before.
Tom also says he and Dan find it funny that some people take Harry Potter so seriously when they assume Tom is just as nasty as his character!
He also reckons the worst is yet to come from Malfoy.

aah cool! bless them tho! I can imagine that being quite difficult for Tom, people thinking that he is actually that much of a nasty pasty!

I`m sure he`s quite different from Draco. And, besides, he and Dan
have very good sense of humor, if they can laugh for thoughts that Tom is as horrible as Malfoy.

Thats funny, before i joined this site, i didnt know who the HP actors were called, and i was so used to calling them Harry and Hermione and Ron. lol Quote:

I dont think his father bullies him, i think he more is overly strict and pushes for Draco to be better than Harry potter and therefore breaks down their relationship and because of their non existant father/son relation ship he takes it out on Ron who is loved by his family and H and HR.

^ I think you're right. Although Lucius is part of the reason Draco is the way he is, it's also down to his personal choice also.
Having said that, Tom hasn't read the books.

He hasnt?? I was always under the impression all of the HP actors had to read the books before? Oh yeah, Gary Oldman didnt read the books before he did POA. At least the major characters have read it.

Dan has, Emma couldn't get through book five and Rupert hasn't. David and Gary read book 1 I think. All the directors have read the books though, but I'm pretty sure he's said before that he's never read any of the books, Tom, that is.

Couldnt get through book five because of time? Rupert is so much like ron, Ron probably wouldnt read it either. lol. I suppose Daniel would be the one to read it, as he is Harry, and needs to know about how Harry behaves. But surely they (Rupert, Tom, Gary etc) would want to get a good grip on their character?? I think its an actors job (well expected job) to potray their characters properly and they need to read the books. But then again, the director may see the characters differently.

I think it was more the length of the book that was the issue but it could've also been time. I think Rupert read a few of the first books but I do remember him saying at the PoA DVD Launch that Dan told him Ron gets to play Quidditch in the fifth one so obviously that points to him not having read it.
I think ultimately it's important the director reads them but it does help if the actors know what they're doing. Most of the supporting cast have, like the twins, Chris Rankin, Alan Rickman etc... have and are all admittedly fans of Rowling.

I don't think Lucius physically abuses Draco, but I do think it's more mentally. I'm sure he's said some very nasty things to Draco more than once, that makes him the way he is. Quote:

I think Rupert might have said he read up to book three. I'm not too sure. Yes, David and Gary have read at least book five, I'm sure of. I read it in an article. It's good that all the directors have read the books, but I think the actors should too. Maybe that's why Emma does such a horrible job as Hermione. Quote:

Yes, it is. Well, at least some of the HP cast are fans.

I think it all the actors should read the books, to get a feel for the HP world, but it isn't essential to their parts as that is what directors and scripts are for.

I don't care if they have read the books or not as long as they are able to protray theire charcters emotions. The director should of read the book so he doesn't multilate it like Azkaban was. sorry alfonso but that really ticks me off.

What a fun article! I DO love to hate Draco! But not so much on the hate part of course. My one character I love to hate more than all, is Umbridge. *shudder* This was a fun read!!!

How a film turns out is not just down to the director solely.
