| | |  Disney/Potter alliance rumors resurface
Last year, we reported that Warner Brothers may be close to finalizing a deal with the Disney Company to create a Harry Potter themed attraction. This was revealed at JimHillMedia.com. Today more information has resurfaced on the website about the possible Potter/Disney project.
Jim Hill reveals that a 'Letter of Intent' has been signed by J.K. Rowling after months of negotiations which would allow Disney "the right to begin preliminary development of a theme park-related project featuring the Harry Potter characters."
However, a 'Letter of Intent' is defined by investorsworld.com as follows: Quote:
A letter from one company to another acknowledging a willingness and ability to do business ... A letter of intent is not a contract and cannot be enforced, it is just a document stating serious intent to carry out certain business activities.
Therefore, it is still possible that the project may fall through. Jim Hill goes on to observe: Quote:
And given Ms. Rowling's reputation for being one tough negotiator (Case in point: When Warner Bros. was getting ready to produce the very first "Harry Potter" film, the studio insisted that at least one actor in the cast be a "name." To be specific, Warners wanted Robin Williams for the role of Hagrid. But J.K. absolutely refused to allow the studio to cast this Academy-award winning comedian as Hogwart's big-hearted gamekeeper. And given that one of the terms of the sale of "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" movie rights was that the author had final approval over the film's cast ... Well, that's how Robbie Coltrane wound up filling Hagrid's over-sized boots) ... Just because Disney now has a letter of intent with J.K. Rowling doesn't mean that you should plan on queuing up for "Harry Potter: The Ride" anytime soon.

That would be totally awsome!!! When me and my sister were little, we used to go down to the lake by our house, and there was a tree, we'd sit at, we called it 'The Whomping Willow' LOL! Well, one day in the summer, we decided that we were going to Disney World on vacation with our parents. Since we we're sitting in the whomping willow, (it was huge and bendy and had a branch that was a perfect seat) we thought a HP theme park would be cool! We thought up like...*thinking* over 20 rides that would come from the books, like the whomping willow, and Aragog!!! That woulb be totally cool!!! 
Let's hope it goes through!!!
Oh, yeah, my sister is now a member! She is Mrs. Dudley Dursley!!! Hehe!!! She doesn't like the Dursleys, but guess who was typing at the time!!!  *Muhaha* Anyway, look her up!

Well, I think it is interesting that JK may agree to have disney do a theme park based on HP. I think it will take years before it will get off the ground because of the legalities involved, but I guess we have to wait and see. It will also stir controversy because in the US the conservative religious right groups will protest that it is promoting satanic worship and is not family friendly like Diseny. Which would be funny since Disney produced a short segment of Mickey doing spells and magic in a scene from Fantasia. Anyway, we will all will have to wait and see what happens.
I also think it was wise of JK not to succumb to Hollywood and have Robin Williams be cast as Hagrid. He is a good actor/comedian but he would have made Hagrid a joke and too dumb which Hagrid is not. | |

OMG......... They might build a Harry Potter ride at Disney World? This is soooo awesome!!! But they said that it is still possible that it might now happen.... That kind of stinks! But hopefully JK Rowling will let them build the ride and then let all the HP fans of the world step into Harry Potter's shoes!!!

hahaha. J.K. is quite the fierce negotiator. hehe. she would definitely give sweet old Disney a run for their money! that would be fantastic if they created a theme-park attraction based on Harry Potter though! i would go to Disneyland especially to see it!

That would be awesome, i love disney but would make a special trip just for that. And I agree with a comment from above that all my money would also be spent at the gift shop at the end of the ride.
