Dementors summer's scariest creature - according to the NY Times

Summary:
Prisoner of Azkaban," the third-highest-grossing release of the summer so far, includes the season's scariest creatures.....

Article:

"Prisoner of Azkaban," the third-highest-grossing release of the summer so far, includes the season's scariest creatures, the wraithlike Dementors, who may also be emblematic figures of an age in which, it often seems, we have everything to fear including fear itself. The Dementors, skeletal and shrouded in black mist, practice an intimate, Orwellian form of terror, sucking all hope from the souls of their victims. What makes them especially sinister is that they are part of the wizard world's system of law enforcement, terrorizing the innocent to protect them from the guilty (or, in the case of Sirius Black, from the falsely accused).

The woodland monsters that haunt "The Village" could be the Dementors' long-lost American cousins. (That they are referred to as "those we do not speak of" also aligns them with Voldemort, the arch-villain of the Potter series, better known as "he who must not be named.")

They were pretty scary in the movie I think, especially for little kids! I think that whenever the dementors came on screen, the cinema managers should have blasted the air conditioning lol. That would have added to the atmosphere!

The only time the Dementors freaked me out was when one of them opened it's mouth during the Quidditch match. Other than that, the way I'd imagined them was quite a bit scarier, but it would have gotten the prouducers sued by the creators of the Ringwraiths. lol.

They were pretty cool and not that scary, at least when you're just watching them. If you were actually in the wizarding world with dementiors it would be much scarier.

Hey i personally thought that the dementors were the freakiest darn things in the whole bloody world! But thats only me. I guess you have to really get into the movie to be really frightened. But seeing as i get scared when i read the book... many of my firends call me coward but there you go... i dont think its so much though that i was afraid of the actuall dementor but what it represents. I think i do fear fear above all else. Except for spiders. blasted little creatures!

They might not have been to scary in the movie, but could you imagine looking out your window at night and seeing a big black hooded thing flying in the sky? That would scare the crap out of me.

In the book they were fairly scary and the idea of them is soooo terrifying but i think that the nazgul in the lord of the rings beats them at being scary. i don't think they were scary in the movie. I didn't imagine them like that at all.

LOL that would have been great!! I don't think they were all that scary. The only part about them that really freaked me out was when it showed it's mouth during the Quidditch match. O.o
