Deathly Hallows to be split into two halves?

The Daily Mail is reporting that Deathly Hallows, the last film in the Harry Potter series, will be split into two halves. Fans will remember that such a rumour has circulated before concerning Goblet of Fire. The reason given is artistic rather than financial, considering the size of the final novel.

Quote:

A film source said: "There's so much to fit that the view is the last movie should be in two halves. There is a huge battle when Harry, played by Daniel Radcliffe, takes on Voldemort that needs to be done really well."
Quote:

At Warner Bros, who are rumoured to be thinking of Oscars and a big-name director such as Steven Spielberg for the final film, a spokesman said:

"People are discussing all possibilities."
Steven Spielberg had previously considered directing Philosopher's Stone, but later declined. As many fans will know, several names have been linked to the last film, including but not limited to; Chris Columbus, Alfonso Cuaron, David Yates and Guillermo Del Toro.

Whilst it's not entirely impossible that Steve Kloves might be working on the seventh movie script already, the production team are only about halfway through filming Half-Blood Prince. A script normally needs to be completed prior to the choosing of a director.

For now, treat this as a rumour. We will contact W.B. for further comment and verification.

Hope it's true - would be awesome. Titles will be tricky though.

Personally I'd rather quality over quantity. I don't like long films  And I think, with editing, the story can be made to fit one film.

I dont kno how i feel about that, ther right in the fact that thers soo much to fit in,in 2 hours but i dont know
its a good idea but im not sure intirly

Lionella 01-13-2008 11:08 AM

I really, really, really hope they're going to split the movie in two parts. I want to have all details in the book in the film too! It would be great... =)

Lily_Evans1990 01-13-2008 11:11 AM

Why can't they make it a three hour movie, like the Lord of the Ring?

xtonksx 01-13-2008 11:12 AM

It's fine with me as long as it's well-made :)

Padie 01-13-2008 11:19 AM

I personally would love it ^^ After all, I can't think of that many scenes (if any) that can be cut in DH and, after watching all other films, I think that if they make it into just one, then they won't include many important parts *nods* I just hope both halves come out in the same year

Hollister 01-13-2008 12:30 PM

That's actually a good idea. Then less things would be cut out of the movie .

R&Hr 01-13-2008 12:51 PM

OMG!!IT WOULD BE SOOO AWSOME IF IT WAS SPLIT IN TWO!! then there would be three more movies to want to watch, and even more hp awsomeness!!!OMG!!YAY!!

But by splitting it in two they won't have to radically truncate a great deal of scenes and they can leave in moments like
the wedding, Dobby's final moment & burial, freeing the dragon (er, doesn't that sound naughty!) and the visit to Luna's house
. It's also important to give the epilogue it's proper amount of time and not rush it (kinda like LotR had a long triple ending).

HBP had some scenes that could be left out like dwelling on the effects to muggle-world but DH has so much that's important on the quest.

The guessing game would be where they will split it. I'd have to go re-read a couple parts to remember where the middle actually is - was it after
he buried Dobby
? Because I liked his attitude much better after that...

it's really great !! thanx for the news hope its true ^_^

cgold 01-13-2008 02:05 PM

I hope so. The quality of the movies go down with the quantity in my opinion (except for POA).

Mrs Felton 01-13-2008 02:07 PM

I'd rather DH be split into two films than have a three-hour film.

doublecore 01-13-2008 03:01 PM

WOW, I hate to brag but i predicted this a long time ago. There is too much to tell in DH and Warner Brothers is going to clean up. I think one will be release in November and the other in the summer. I think the two parts will have different names. The first is DH and the second is Elder Wand:)

Kazters 01-13-2008 03:14 PM

i would perfer they put a break in like the did with LOTR RTK i mean that was long.. but i dont want to films i would find is annoying..

Antwone Thomas 01-13-2008 03:29 PM

Spilt or not, I wouldn't mind. My only concern is that Steven Spielberg does NOT direct the last film. I wouldn't mind Alfonzo Cauron or David Yates to come back (they are brilliant directors), but Steven Spielberg does not do well with adaptions and he has a nack for ruining endings.

Also, I think if they do a two parter they'll be able to fit the epilogue. I think that would be nice, although most people wouldn't like to see adult actors trying to play Harry, Ron, and Hermione.

Hermionespell 01-13-2008 03:32 PM

I really hope that they don't split it up! I know it's a lot to fit into one movie, but they can easily make the movie 2.5 + hours long with fitting the truly important stuff. I just wouldn't like if they split it into 2 separate movies because then it wouldn't be DH...it'd be DH and something else...and they can't easily name both DH.

Hopefully everything turns out all right. And hopefully Steve Kloves doesn't butcher the script again.

FireInDarkness23 01-13-2008 03:35 PM

If splitting it into two parts is what it takes to get the best they can give us, I say do it. I'd personally rather have all the details in the movie instead of a repeat of OotP, which I thought they cut down so much it was a horrible movie.

relly1611 01-13-2008 03:37 PM

I think two movies would be annoying!Better a longer one...

HP301 01-13-2008 03:38 PM

I hope it's true, because there's so much to fit in this film, and I can't
see anything importent they can cut from the script.

Paint.the.Limelight 01-13-2008 03:48 PM

Titles will be hard if they do that. But I hope they do!

Nattie 01-13-2008 03:52 PM

I think that the plot lines are far too important to leave out to fit one film. I would be far happier with two films that encapsulate everything that the story is about. With one film, far too much would be left out and we would be left feeling cheated out of a good story Fingers crossed.

D/hr4evr 01-13-2008 03:54 PM

I think it would be okay, because I don't want anything, or not much, cut out of the book.

Egyptian_Blue 01-13-2008 04:01 PM

As long as they include all that is necessary for the story to be complete, with no loose ends, I'll be okay with whatever they decide.
