Haven't seen any of the films, but Helena is a remarcable actress, so she really stands a chance.
As for the nominations for DH, competition is really tough, but I'll root for DH.

Congrats to Deathly Hallows, but that's some tough competition, especially from Alice in Wonderland and Inception. I think the competition was between those two films to begin with so any other film is surely going to lose out, which is bad. I’d like Deathly Hallows to just win one Oscar for once. It's technical side has always been amazing. And congrats to Helena Bonham Carter! I haven't watched the King's Speech yet but I’m most definitely sure she deserved it because she's been amazing in all the films I've seen her in. One of my favorite actresses. Quote:

All of the movies, including the Chris Columbus ones but even more once he left, have been very very flawed in terms of overall storytelling and complexity in characterization, especially when you compare them to the AMAZINGLY well-told stories and fleshed-out characters in the original books.
But I definitely think that the the series should have gotten WAYYYYY more than just one or two technical categories each. I think every single Harry Potter film actually deserved to be nominated in ALL of the "techies". Especially cinematography, visual effects, and art direction, but also score, film editing, and the sound categories. Hopefully we'll see "DH: Part II" pop up in all of those I don't think anyone really expects any of the HP films to be recognized in the major categories like "Best Picture," etc. because that would make the Oscars look like a joke. When WB sent HBP in for "Best Picture" consideration, I definitely raised my eyebrows 'cos that was just a silly move on their part. While the films are fun to watch, they most certainly aren't masterpieces like some of the other nominations in those categories.
But I do agree that the series should have gotten nominations for most of the technical categories. It irritates me greatly because the films have done a great job there time and time again and have been getting better and better visually; however, they've never won a single prestigious award for what it has achieved in the technical categories or the score; especially the score during John Williams' time in Prisoner of Azkaban.

I'm so excited HP was nominated for something! But not feeling very optimistic, unfortunately. I hope Part II will be nominated for some more awards... I think they really deserve it.

i just recently finished watching The King's Speech and i can say that Alexandre Desplat's music for Deathly Hallows Part 1 was much better than the King's speech, but i wish he could win the award.
I also wish for Helena and ofcourse, anything related to Harry Potter films...
