| | Deathly Hallows: Part 2 highlights & losses at 2012 Academy Awards, actors attend Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 was up for three Academy Awards this past weekend, in the achievement in visual effects, art direction, and makeup categories. The finale of the Harry Potter series lost out to Hugo and The Iron Lady, respectively; two of the Harry Potter actors up for awards - Kenneth Branagh as supporting actor for My Week with Marilyn, and Gary Oldman as best actor for his work in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy - also lost out to Christopher Plummer and Jean Dujardin, respectively.
Admittedly, it was not a successful night for the Harry Potter films or its actors at the 2012 Oscars. However, a few new interviews were featured during the visual effects and makeup categories, where director David Yates, and actors Jason Isaacs and Warwick Davis discussed the immense work put into bringing the characters and visuals to life. That, as well as photos of Oldman and Branagh on the red carpet at the awards show on Sunday, can be viewed below. ![](http://www.snitchseeker.com/gallery/albums/actors/groups/2012oscars/40826122.jpg) ![](http://www.snitchseeker.com/gallery/albums/actors/groups/2012oscars/40841285.jpg) ![](http://www.snitchseeker.com/gallery/albums/actors/groups/2012oscars/40848866.jpg) |

I was disappointed with them not winning anything ![:(](https://www.snitchseeker.com/images/smilies/sad02.gif) No other movie is better than HP ![Loved](https://www.snitchseeker.com/images/smilies/loved.gif) although I believe I'm a tad bias
The men look incredible though, and to us - they were the true winners.

And now I understand why Daniel said the Academy snubbed Harry Potter based on "pure snobbery." I knew 'Best Picture' and 'Best Supporting Actor' for Alan Rickman were not going to happen, but did the Academy honestly think the makeup in Iron Lady was better than Potter? I'm not discrediting the makeup artists that worked on the Iron Lady film, but compared to Potter where they turned humans into goblins (believable looking goblins) and aged their stars 20 years into the future, did they honestly think that Iron Lady deserved it? I know the makeup artists/visual effects people of Potter don't need it but you'd think 10 years of hard work would deserve some recognition. Goodness, even Albert Nobbs would have been a better competitor where they turned Glenn Close into a very convincing man! The Academy really is blinded by their snobbery. [end of Academy rant]

I wish they could have won :[, they did the best job on the make up and special effects because that was needed for the films. Without them the films would not have been as spectacular! Ah well...what's done is done.

Although I was sad DH 2 didn't win, and certaily I don't think the winners were that better than those who didn't win, a very interesting editorial I read in another fansite gives some very interesting light on the matter.

I was sad that HP didn't win anything. And yeah, Iron Lady winning Best Make-up confuses me, but since I haven't seen the movie, I won't say anything about it. I HAVE seen Hugo before, and I can understand why it won those two categories, but I personally think HP and the other nominees had better special effects.
My (only) favorite part was Octavia Spencer winning Best Supporting Actress; I felt like she deserves it. (But that standing ovation seemed to be a double-edged sword, though.)

As Steven Spielberg said over 35 years ago, when Jaws underperformed on Oscar nomination day: "This is called commercial backlash. Everybody loves a winner. But nobody loves a **WINNER**".
Although the Academy still managed to throw that movie a Best Picture nomination on top of its three technical categories. It's too bad HP wasn't afforded the same.

Sad to say if even in the BAFTA's, The People's Choice and yes, the Golden Globes didnt have HP win, you have to admit that there is something to be said about the production of HP. It was an HP fan favorite but in no way did outsiders have a love affair with HP. And that is a darn shame.
The HP production team aligned themselves with the franchise and it seems that even among their peers, they did not garner enough respect. It is really what it is all about. Peers and respects. If JAWS underperformed, you forget the problems they had on the set but it still won in editing and music. Speilberg wasnt nominated as a Best Director - the only snub against him. But look at the films out that year... You would be surprised who wasnt even nominated.

Well, I was very dissapointed, they dont want the story win, alright no blockbuster (then what Hugo there for ? ) but not to admit its visual effects or make-up, thats agains their own words.
Technicaly, Potter's are more borders crossings then other nominated movies this year, but i know it and potter lot sure too, only one missing in this are Oscars themselves, I for one dont think too higtly about this commission now, dissapointing indeed.

Most of the time, in Hollywood these days, true talent isn't recognized. Therefore, Harry Potter films had no chance. It's all about who knows who and who is "PC". I don't even watch the Oscars anymore, it's all about egos and stroking them now.

And I would have thought that the Harry Potter films would gain a spectacular recognition at the Oscars for 10 long years of hard work, make up, acting, and the beloved story of JK Rowling's series.

HP should have won awards at the Oscars. Don't people see how much effort has been put into the films in the past decade?

It is too bad the Academy thumbed their noses at the HP movies.
I thought it was a tad spiteful to be ignored.
The HP movies contributed something, such as a huge phenomenon
in cultures all over the world.
