David Heyman talks Deathly Hallows in 3D

As a part of their 3D week, MTV spoke to Harry Potter producer David Heyman, since it was announced that the final installments will be utilising the technology for the release of Deathly Hallows.

Quote:

MTV: When did you make the decision to do the two parts of "Deathly Hallows" in 3-D?

David Heyman: I think that it emerged organically. Clearly, the success of 3-D movies has had an impact on the economy and making of films. We saw an opportunity and grabbed it. Also, "Harry Potter" itself has so many exciting possibilities for 3-D, both in things coming at you and also just in making that world seem even more epic than it already is. "Harry Potter" is already an epic film, but having that added dimension will make it even more epic, and that seemed like an opportunity that was too hard to pass up. Though we didn't shoot it in 3-D, the quality of post-3-D has improved remarkably in the last year or two, so we felt very comfortable with that process.
Quote:

MTV: Do you know how long the conversion process will actually take once you start doing it?

Heyman: What they generally talk about is 12 to 16 weeks, but we're going to begin the process very, very soon.
Quote:

MTV: Is there one scene in particular that you think is going to be especially great in 3-D?

Heyman: I am obviously looking forward to some of the battle sequences in the second part. I am also looking forward to seeing the dragon flying up. I think there's a lot that will be great in 3-D, but to me, where it's really most exciting is just making that world seem much deeper, richer and what that extra dimension gives you.
Quote:

MTV: Now that you're going to do "Deathly Hallows" in 3-D, have you given any thought to re-releasing some of the other "Potter" films in 3-D?

Heyman: Those discussions haven't yet happened, but I'm sure it's just a matter of time. You know what? I actually shouldn't say that. Who knows? It would be great. You can never tell. I hope so.

Ditto.

I'm going to watch the films in 2D. Maybe even wait until they are released on Blu-Ray. Believe it or not I still haven't watched Half-Blood Prince! :-o

i agree since david yates took over the movies have got worse the first 4 were amazing but i feel david yates skates to much over the action sequences and doesnt leave the audiance satisfied. i thought he might have improved in half blood prince but i was let down. i just hope to god he doesnt ruin the final part of deathly hallows because if done right could out do the lord of the rings final battle which is the most epic movie ending to date.

LindseyLinz 03-29-2010 05:01 PM

I dont think I will be seeing it in 3D. I have always enjoyed the movies in 2D I dont see how it would be any better in 3D.

Patronus Charm 03-29-2010 05:35 PM

i intensely dislike 3D films....i would not bother seeing one ever again.

Lady Shivilow 03-29-2010 05:40 PM

I like some films in 3-D it would be nice to watch this film in 3-D maybe this time i'll be so close to my hero Bellatrix Lestrange!! :woot:

cherbear09 03-29-2010 05:59 PM

ya I am not a huge fan of 3D movies. I find theres only a handful of moments that you actually notice the 3D technology anyways. so i guess we will just have to wait and see!

Padfoot7 03-29-2010 06:17 PM

Ahhh! 3D! That will be AWSOME! In IMAX as well! I can't WAIT!

luminessence 03-29-2010 07:55 PM

Very reliefed to hear from producer David Heyman about the 3-D conversion and yeah it sounds great so far. Just focus on the story and make it a good story, if you can do that then we're straight.

bonnieginnyfan1 03-29-2010 08:26 PM

I would love to see in in 3D but as well as 2D because sometimes some movies are actually better in 3D than 2D or 2D than 3D.

bojiva 03-29-2010 08:29 PM

I'm totally on the same opinion with David Heyman.
It will be awesome to see the Harry Potter world coming alive in 3D.
It is great that the film is made with no 3D cameras so it will have two versions in 3D or in 2D:woot::loved:

veggie_potter 03-29-2010 09:36 PM

Schweet. I love 3-D. Can't wait to see it!

princess of*hp* 03-30-2010 12:56 AM

Anyone notice that he says organically a lot? :xd: Maybe it's just me, but he's an excellent producer. 3D fo sho!

joannabanana 03-30-2010 01:24 AM

I disagree with the Yates naysayers..I have to say the last two Potter films are my favorites. They are different..yes, very! But They have more depth to them. I like the first four but the last two are by far my favorites and I think David Yates has done a great job!

Ginny GL 03-30-2010 01:44 AM

Make 'em all 3D!! It'll be great!

DevonMurrayLover14 03-30-2010 01:53 AM

Seeing Deathly Hallows in 3D could be cool but i don't know!! i hope its not too much 3D because that makes me sick!!!

PotterGirl714 03-30-2010 02:10 AM

That so cool!

Taiya89 03-30-2010 05:02 AM

I agree completely. Yates isn't that good at keeping the story of Potter interesting enough to watch onscreen. I get bored watching the film at certain parts, even when watching it for the first time, because he doesn't seem to understand how to link the story and the audience together. I've only seen HBP twice and that was enough for me whereas with the first four I can watch a million times and still love every moment. I think he's a medicore director at best. That's just my opinion, of course. I'm sure there are others that like him.

As far as 3D, I'm not exactly going crazy over it. I mean 2D is pretty clear in terms of visuals too today. However, it sounds intersting enough so I may see what the fuss is all about.

Gryffindor Gal 101 03-30-2010 11:00 AM

I haven't watched many moviesin 3D and i think i'll see deathley hallows a few times some 3D some not

R-Luchy~W*7*PG~ 03-30-2010 12:57 PM

Hmm..I don't know..must be good..

purebloodprincess87 03-30-2010 04:40 PM

Please tell me that some movie theaters will give u the opinion of seeing it in 2D. I mean I saw Alice and Wonderlandin 2D and I didn't think you'd need 2 see it in 3D. Hmmm Maybe that was because the screens at one of the theaters where I live was in XD

shortbottom 03-30-2010 05:06 PM

I saw Avatar in 3D and regular. I can't say the the 3D was significantly more realistic or anything. Especially, not considering it was twice the cost of a regular ticket. So I might pass on the 3D unless the ratings for the 3D are out the roof or my seriously addicted film buff friends tell me it's the only way to go.

All 3D films come with a 2D alternative.
