Post David Heyman on the GoF PG-13 rating

Entertainment Weekly has a new quote from WB and David Heyman discussing the PG-13 rating that 'Goblet of Fire' has received in the US.

"Kids. One moment they're frolicking under the Whomping Willow, and next thing you know they're like, thinking about making out 'n' stuff. Yes, the Harry Potter franchise became a man recently when the MPAA smacked the fourth flim, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (due November 18), with a very grown-up PG-13 rating."

"We anticipated at some point this was going to happen," says Dawn Taubin, President of Marketing for Warner Bros. Pictures. "It was just a question of when." Although the rating - the MPAA is concerned about "sequences of fantasy violence and frightening images" - may lop a serious portion of the audience off at this 6-year-old knees, Producer David Heyman is unfazed. "Kids loathe to be patronized," he says. "The most important thing for us is to maintain the fidelity to the material. [It's] a little frightening at times, but that's the book."

"(What's so scary, exactly? Try the murder of a Hogwarts student and the rebirth of You-Know-Who.) Parents might flinch a bit, but the PG-13 certainly didn't hurt the latest Star Wars outing, another all-ages title, or either Spider-Man film. Only, hold up: In the wake of the painfully tragic sixth book, Half-Blood Prince...goodness, does R-rated territory lie ahead? "I don't think we'll ever get there," Taubin says with a laugh. "One movie at a time."

EW have also rated GoF as their number 1 anticipated fall movie.

well, i'd still go and see the movie if i was under 13.. i mean it's harry potter! maybe the PG-13 rating will make the parents think twice about letting their children see the movie, but i think it will make them change their minds. well, i hope you could understand what i meant..

PG-13. Imagine that. Didn't see THAT coming. Well, it doesn't matter, because I'm 14. But my brother....well, we'll leave that up to my mom.

i don't think it becoming PG-13 will make a difference. people are still going to go and see it. it shoul dbe PG-13 cause the books get darker and if they didn't give it another rating then you know they aren't true to the books.

and parents will still take little babies (not joking went and saw POA and a woman had taken her 3 year old and a newborn baby to the cinema!)

Honestly i think rating it pg-13 will make it better. that means they weren't afraid of puttin more stuff in it so they can keept it PG.

If they give HBP an R rating, then they have to give OOTP R rating too, cuz Sirius is murdered too. Ridiciulous...oh well...GOF is still going to be awesome!!

Weel, he made some good points. I seriously doubt that any HP movie will be "R".

totally make sense im glad they are looking out for lil fans i don't think HP movies will ever reach the R rating thats just too extreme. unless the R is given for sexy boys in the movie lol

PG-13 makes sense, especially for GoF. I know that they're going to have a bunch of very angry eight-year-olds on their hands, though. Too bad...

i think the PG-13 rating is not bad but good...and i think it deserved it due to the violence

I see the PG-13 is reasonable, it is going to be scary i cant wait, it just means it wont be a little kiddie film anymore, darker, much cooler and we'll see voldemort!!
