| | Dan Radcliffe talks music
In an interview with The Observer, Dan Radcliffe has spoken openly about his tastes in music and what he thinks of certain bands and genres. Quote:
'If you look at bands who say they're punk now, like Sum 41, and then look at the Sex Pistols and what they stood for and what they meant and what they managed to do and... well,' he says, taking in the interior of central London's opulent Merchant Taylors' Hall, a 600-year-old banqueting venue, 'the others are just pop music really, aren't they?'
Quote:
Radcliffe doesn't like pop. Scratch that: he loathes it. So much so that the City of London School pupil is on record as saying that pop is music that 'shouldn't be made or sold', and that 'record shops should be fined for every pop album they sell'. Today, shortly before the premiere of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Radcliffe's fourth outing as the trainee wizard, the 16-year-old is slightly more magnanimous, remarking only that he 'couldn't cope' with a hip hop album and that jazz is a 'demanding' medium. Reggae, house and R&B merit one huge shrug.
Quote:
Now, he says, in tandem with Matt Lewis (who plays Neville Longbottom), he's on a mission 'to convert the heathens' in the cast, though he's had little impact on his colleagues' tastes thus far.
'I made a CD for Emma [Watson, who plays Hermione Granger],' he says. 'I included this fantastic singer-songwriter called Brendan Benson and a bit of Ben Kweller's first album, Sha Sha. I've since found out through other people, though, that she has lost it, which I am very offended by and will bring up with her at some point.'

You can have an iPod and still buy CDs. That's what I do, I just burn the songs onto my computer and put them on my iPod. I love having the actual CD to touch and the sleeve to flip through; I agree with Dan whole-heartedly on that.
I also agree with Dan on his music views. The worst punishment for me would to be stuck in a room with pop, rap, and country (I don't care if it's the roots of rock 'n' roll, I still hate it) playing on a continuous loop. I'm a bit of an elitest when it comes to my music, but that's because I'm so passionate about it. I also loathe pop, especially the kind that is labeled as punk (Good Charlotte, Sum 41) Plus all the bubblegum blondes.
My opinion of course...

He did give a playlist but he openly said he prefers CDs. Giving a playlist doesn't mean he has an iPod. I think they're over-rated, clearly a fad. But then I can't afford one so I would say that.
Haha, can't afford one either! I read somewhere that yeah, Dan prefers CDs to iPods bec he like looking at the CD sleeves or something.

We all have our own tastes and it shouldn't make anyone feel that they are stupid because of it! I don't say I hate a sort of music because i feel it's offensive to say it!!
Music is what makes a person and it sais alot about them. The kinda music i like shows my nature. If my taste in music is talked about like that then it feels like i've been insulted!

Dan seems to go overboard with everything, he's too passionate with music to the point like he's psychotic about it -- I mean trying to convince everybody he knows to like his kind of music?! And being offended that Emma seems to have lost the CD he gave her.
He sounds like he's so full of himself when he talks about music, like his picks are the only "cool" ones and anything outside it is rubbish. Like we should worship his playlist. Conceited really!
I read somewhere just yesterday that Emma said she likes hip-hop, so she has a right to what she likes.
Who does he think he is to force anybody to like what he likes?! Not me, I buy my own CDs, he doesnt, and I like all kinds of music.
I like Rupert's picks/playlist in iPod better, and I'd be more comfortable showing Rupert my own playlist. Based on his selection, I'd say he seems to be more open-minded about a wider range of music genres and wont discriminate/criticize me for my music preferences.
I wouldn't feel the same way with Dan who would probably just mock me for my music taste.

I like rock, too. It has nothing to do with the age, if he like it, it doesen´t change. I´m 30 years old and my favorite Bands are Linkin Park, Red Hot Chili Peppers und Green Day. You don´t get older and suddenly you like other music.

Dan really knows what he´s talking about! I´m surprised ... The youth of today is not lost after all Quote:

Tee, hee! This is normal. I loathed anything that smelled pop at that age ... On the other hand, I´m not quite normal
He´ll probably find out later that even popular and "pop" bands can be good or at least have some good songs Only after that he can say he really chooses himself what he listens to. If you categorize, like "this is pop, I cannot listen to this" you are just as much a slave of the pop-industry as when you have to buy a CD or whatever just because everybody else does.
Don´t get me wrong, though. I think Dan has a great attitude there Like it should be when you´re a teenager, unless you want to end up buying the latest of mariahcarey or celinedion or whatever ...
Dan rocks!

I could see why Dan likes rock music more than others because all he talks about is his favortie bands and concerts he wanted to go to. I think everyone should have their own taste of music. I does not matter what age you are to like a certain kind of music. Though I like pop myself I can't tell people to like it if they don't like it.

So it goes, when you´re really interested in the music, not the fashion. Some people who have listened to let´s say heavy metal only because it was fashionable, feel now ashamed they ever did

It's sweet that he made a cd for Emma but she lost it. I wonder what she's going to say when Dan brings up that particular subject as to where the cd is..

"…pop is music that 'shouldn't be made or sold', and that 'record shops should be fined for every pop album they sell'.…" Radcliffe = God.
But, you all (hopefully, all) know how interview articles are.
Sometimes, they make up stuff.
This could be one of those cases.
But still, Radcliffe = God.

Dan is going a bit overboard with this article. I hope some of what he said has been exagerrated.

His innocence and that hes going through those years of growing and learning about the world! Its a strong thing iin your adolesant years but not so much later on. Im looking forward to seeing him grow up!! *Sighs!*

He`s a punk, plain as that... And thank gosh for that! Cause it`s so awesome to know not all people listen to pop and that no matter what, I`M NOT ALONE!! *lol* J/K...
I remember an interview, like, three years ago, and he said that he liked, Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Exploited (I tink it was), Billy Idol, The RAMONES (oh, yeah!) and oh....what was it... Oh, anyway!
Punk`s not dead!!!
