| | Dan Radcliffe gives major donation to The Trevor Project
Actor Daniel Radcliffe recently made a large and generous donation to the Trevor Project helpline, which helps provide aid to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) youth who are suffering through crisis and suicide issues.
Dan's reason behind the donation is quoted in the above-linked press release: Quote:
"I am very pleased to begin my support of The Trevor Project, which saves lives every day through its critical work," said Daniel Radcliffe. "It's extremely distressing to consider that in 2009 suicide is a top three killer of young people, and it's truly devastating to learn that LGBTQ youth are up to four times more likely to attempt suicide than their heterosexual peers.
I deeply hope my support can raise the organization's visibility so even more despondent youth become aware of The Trevor Helpline's highly trained counselors and Trevor's many other resources. It's vitally important that young people understand they are not alone and, perhaps even more important, that their young lives have real value."
Quote:
"We're incredibly grateful to Daniel for his truly inspiring and historic generosity and support," said Charles Robbins, executive director and chief executive officer, The Trevor Project. "He is setting a meaningful example for millions of young people around the world by embracing diversity and demonstrating that he cares deeply about the well-being of LGBTQ youth."
The amount Dan donated is currently undisclosed. Dan plans to take other steps in the future to further boost the project's profile. |

Why I am not surprised my earlier comment got deleted? I beg to differ it was inappropiate. I was being careful with what I was saying. I wasn't hating. Jeez.

Plus, I'd say that helping people with personal crises that might lead them to the point of suicide is a great thing to do. To each their own, however, but you can't hardly argue that Dan's picking and choosing when he's given so much money to a variety of causes over the years.

If you knew they were going to be objectionable, why post them in the first place?

Why is anyone one who isn't saying "I love you Dan!" or "Your so great Dan!" on this post being called out (or deleted)? C'mon now. All I was saying is that if I had the kinda money he had that's where I would choose to send a huge chunk of it.

We're just not putting up with homophobic comments, even thinly-veiled vague ones.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who thought about frogs when I saw the name
Very interesting indeed I have to say. Its like most celebs give money to dying children, ravaged countries or medical cures. Not that I have a problem with that. We have to turn around and help those who can't help themselves sometimes.
But its good to see someone caring about the everyday person once in a while. A lot of the time we don't need the cure for cancer or to have our house rebuilt.
I have to agree with Dan I'm truly sadden that this Project is even necessary and that that is one of the major causes of death for the LGBTQ community's youth.
I hope his money and his support has the outcome that he is hoping for.
