Equus producer David Pugh has instructed Dan Radcliffe to only sign Equus-related items at the Gielgud Theatre stage door. Quote:
I have told him that he can meet his fans at the door but only sign Equus stuff.
We have had hundreds of people at the stage door every night and he is very good, he always meets them.
He has even taken to signing hundreds of cards before the performance and handing them out.

why does it matter what he signs? I know he's doing Equus so he should promote it but the fans are there to just get somethin from him. They'll be crushed if he doesn't sign somethin just coz it is HP.

hhhmmm I think I agree isnt one of the reasons Dan is doing this is so that he can prove to his fans and critics alike that he is talented and versatile enough to do something other than Harry Potter?

Meh...It just sounds like the director is trying attract more people to Equus, which makes sense since Dan is very popular and would attract fans. If he just signed HP stuff, people would leave and not watch the show.

It's all about marketing I guess, and the fact they want to seperate Daniel from Harry Potter.
It's just sad that those fans of Daniel's who are HP fans and have the once in the lifetime opportunity to meet him - can't have him sign anything HP related. I know if I were able to have him sign something, I would definitely choose something HP related. But perhaps that's just me.

I know the director is promoting his play, but Daniel is still associated with HP for another two movies. So I think it should not matter what he signs, Equus or HP items. I think Daniel has the right to sign either one. Lets face it, half the people in audience are HP fans who are drawing in money for the director so I think he should be gracious to Dan's fans and not alienate them from Dan.

I think if he were to sign things off as Harry Potter, it would destroy all the publicity that Dan Radcliffe is getting, and just reinforce that "Harry Potter" is being in an adult play. The play would have been great whether or not Dan Radcliffe was Harry Potter, and that's what this is all about. He wasn't hired to play Alan because he was Harry Potter. He was hired as Dan Radcliffe. No one else.

hmm...  Maybe signing all the HP stuff was just taking him forever...
I can see why he did that though. It's actually pretty smart. He's trying to get Dan away from all the HP hoopla and making people see him as an actor and not Harry Potter.

I'd do the same thing. Not only is Dan trying to break free of the Harry Potter image, but it's also blocking the people who went to the play from congratulating him on a job well done.
It also keeps the hallways and doorways free and clear of screaming mad Dan Fangirls that would actually ruin the play for those serious about attending it. Honestly, if you were going to a play and had to hear a bunch of crazed fans of one of the actors during the performance, would you stay? Would you tolerate it?
I wouldn't.
