Confirmed: Half-Blood Prince IMAX release date delayed (UPDATED)

It is being reported that the IMAX release of Half-Blood Prince has been delayed by two weeks, to July 29th; it was originally set to be shown in IMAX theatres the same day as conventional theatres in the US: July, 15, 2009. The reason for the change of date is as follows:

Quote:

The film will open in 35mm theaters on the 15th; however, it will not open in IMAX theaters until the 29th. Basically what happened is IMAX Corporation signed a contract with Paramount guaranteeing them a 4 week exclusive window if they filmed parts of Transformers 2 with IMAX cameras onto IMAX film (something that is quite a bit more expensive). Unfortunately that was back when Harry Potter was due to open November 2008 and when Warner Bros. pushed back the opening date Paramount was not willing to renegotiate the contract it had signed with IMAX.
We are currently awaiting confirmation from Warner Bros. on this news, so please stay tuned for further developments.

UPDATE: The Wall Street Journal has confirmed the news, adding that one IMAX in New York and another in Los Angeles, will play the film from July 14th. Thanks to HPANA for the link!

Awww! :( sad to know about that...

But atleast, it give me more time to save money for watching it at the IMAX theater, because i know IMAX is more expensive than the regular theater houses.

And still, i will watch it @ the first day (premiere) of its release at any kind of cinemas.

SheydaMalfoy 06-08-2009 02:05 AM

That sucks ! I was looking foward to seeing it in IMAX.

hpnaiv 06-08-2009 02:07 AM

How much does it cost in the US to see an IMAX movie anyway? Could somebody answer me please :)

MochaChica 06-08-2009 02:19 AM

US IMAX easily 12-15 dollars. I imagine it also matters if it's a matinee, I'm trying to remember when I saw "The Dark Knight" on IMAX, if memory serves correct it was $14...but this was in Connecticut. NYC/LA/Chicago have to be more expensive.

BrunhildMalfoy 06-08-2009 02:22 AM

:swfight: < That's how mad I am right now! I was going to see my favorite scene in the whole series in 3D! Now I'm going to have to shell out for the movie twice! I have no idea how I'll find the money! Stupid Transformers *grumbles*

astralpictures 06-08-2009 02:22 AM

IMAX films in my city are $10-$13 a ticket, depending on the time and day.

That's not too far off from regular theaters here, but I never go anyway. I'm happy with just the regular showing.

LOL wow...

cherbear09 06-08-2009 02:45 AM

oh well..at least its still being released on July 15 in regular theatres, at least we can watch it and then go see it in Imax after, i for one know ill be going to see this movie multiple times in theatres anyways lol

i think its good of imax to keep to their contract, maybe warner bros will learn a lesson from changing release dates lol

DeathEater24601 06-08-2009 03:03 AM

NO WAI.

*essplodes*

What happened, WB? First all the changes to the plots of the movies, then cutting out important plot points, then pushing back the date of release, THEN taking away Slughorn's 'stache... and now THIS?!

I am going to have to write a very stern letter to the Queen about this. *huffs*

Taiya89 06-08-2009 04:09 AM

Crucio IMAX People!

 What? November 2007? Dudes, honestly do you even know what your talking about? Flip...get the dets before you start talking about stuff that you obviously don't have any Idea about!

I can't believe this! I nearly bought my tickets for IMAX yesterday!!!
If Transformers isn't as good as the last one I'm going to flip bcoz of this...

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! *gasps in horror and anger!*

:hairpull:

overdosedchaos 06-08-2009 04:52 AM

This is so unfair. This is just another way for WB to get more money off of us!

marla_khulet 06-08-2009 04:54 AM

oh well. will just see it twice.

iwantorlando05 06-08-2009 05:39 AM

That sucks! But it's Warner Bros. fault for not making up their freakin' mind about the release date. But I wasn't going to see it in Imax on July 15th anyways. I still want to see the Imax Version, but I can wait until July 29th.

Maxilocks 06-08-2009 07:04 AM

Aww.. Not good :[

khashayar_noor 06-08-2009 08:13 AM

messr.yrrah 06-08-2009 08:32 AM

RedheadQueen 06-08-2009 10:04 AM

Ms_Nessa24 06-08-2009 10:30 AM

Uhhh What A Disappointment...
I Was Really Looking Forward to Going to See the MidNight Premiere! :(

LadyMary 06-08-2009 11:18 AM

whaaaaaaaat???

Patronus Charm 06-08-2009 12:24 PM

big oops on their part, huh? They may lose alot of $ because people will likely see it once, twice, at a regular theatre and, in this economy, forego the pricier admission to Imax because they would have already seen the movie several times! The only reason I bother seeing the movie at the Imax is because they sell Harry Potter merchandise at the concession stand that you dont find anywhere else. For OOTP, i bought several collector\'s tin boxes filled with trading cards. I never saw them anywhere else, except on eBay.

laura-tonks 06-08-2009 02:54 PM

Awwwww that sucks!

Nixy! 06-08-2009 03:20 PM

bummer. Oh well, I\'ll go see it normally when it comes out, then at IMAX in town later on in the summer holidays :D
