Chicago Tribune - Harry's Appeal to Grown-Up Fans - Two Fan Conferences Referenced

Summary:
Two Harry Potter conferences for grown-up fans of the series - Nimbus, held in July 2003 and Convention Alley, to be held from July 30 through August 1, 2004 - were mentioned in an article that appeared in yesterday's Chicago Tribune about the appeal of the Harry Potter series to grown-ups.

Here's a quote from the article:

"Last summer's Potter conference -- named Nimbus 2003 after Harry's first broomstick -- was so successful that another adults-only Potter weekend, this one called Convention Alley, is planned for July in Ottawa, Ontario."

- Yes I know that feeling all too well, Id like the minutes for it though, or pictures, it would be good to see what is discussed.

I'd love to go to a convention like this...unfortunatley, that would require buying a plane ticket.

More information please! This is really interesting. I mean, my mom reads Harry Potter. I just wonder if the adults at this convention are as obsessed as we are!!

We're considering making the conference proceedings (a compilation of the papers presented at the conference) available to non-attendees after the conference - please stay tuned to the Convention Alley website for the latest information. We'll also try to upload photos of the conference to the website.

In terms of more information: The conference is sponsored by the Harry Potter for Grown-Ups Yahoo group and will feature programming sessions by fans from both the academic and non-academic worlds; a keynote address by Harry Potter Lexicon creator Steve Vander Ark; a banquet in honor of Harry's birthday on July 31 including cake and ice cream; a vendor marketplace; a games room; and a screening of the new PoA movie.

The website has lots of information (including the schedule of events for the weekend and a list of the programming sessions) - if there is anything you'd like to know that isn't answered on the website, please feel free to e-mail us at: hpottawa@yahoo.no, or post a note on the website forum or on the HPfGU Convention List.

Are you sure this is for adults?

Sounds cool, but I'm in the UK anyway, so I think I may have to pass, the ice-cream does sound tempting though.
