| | Character auditions for Harry Potter theme park?
Character auditions for the Wizarding World of Harry Potter park in Universal Studios, Orlando, Florida, are said to be underway. They are said to be "casting all the major parts for the characters in the books".
Other parts will be created including a wand instructor to teach kids "how to do magic tricks". Also there will be wizards who walk amongst the visitors, who will engage in duels with each other - these will take place at specific spots where special effects will be in place. Quote:
"For example, one wizard throws a spell at the other, the other reacts, does stunts and the places around, or behind them, bursts into flames or there is an explosion."
Quote:
“There is going to be a ride through Gringotts that is based on the rails through the bank. There will be a stage show that comes from Goblet of Fire of the scene in the grave yard where Harry fights Voldemort.”
These reports are unconfirmed at the moment.
The theme park is scheduled to open late 2009.

We just returned from Orlando, which is two hours south of us, and we drive past Universal Studios sort of wistfully, waiting very impatiently for the theme park to hurry up and open. I would love to work there in some capacity!!! I would probably be "generic witch" or something, as I am too old to be a student. I could get my 9 year old daughter to pass as an 11 year old first timer at Hogwarts, but I am quite certain that child labor laws would not allow it. |

| Why the theme park is in Orlando... My Cherie Amour
The Harry Potter theme park alone would not be large enough, that is why it is one of the Islands of Adventure. That way a ticket into the entire park would cover this as well. Also, has anyone actually been to Orlando lately?? Loads and loads of folks from the UK are there because the exchange rate is over 2 british pounds to one dollar. Orlando is THE number one vacation spot for people from all over the world because it has Disney, Epcot, Seaworld, Universal, all the water parks, and is about one and a half hours east of Busch Gardens. So the Harry POtter theme park has a even more brilliant chance of thriving with it being located with the other attractions that pull folks from all over. I would travel anywhere to see it, ANYWHERE, but I see the appeal of a central Florida location and am grateful i live so close. On that note, I totally would not envy all the characters in their robes and layers of Hogwarts uniforms in our 98 degree heat in July and August.... |

it is really annoying when they open stuff like that away from the place were most of the fans are going to be because maybe people dont want to spend up to £5000 to go to florida with 5 people because that is how much a ticket is from here but a ticket from florida over here for 5 is £3500 (i did alot of research before posting )

You come from UK and a $20 meal here would mean 8 sterling to you!! The exchange rate is horrible for americans to go abroad, but Brits, Scots and Welsh are totally raking in .... my job is connected to the real estate market and the #s of Brits actually buying vacation homes because they are spending about 125,000 pounds on a house that costs us over 270,000 dollars. So every dollar you spend on merchandise in a harry potter theme park is like spending 40 pence. And many Brits dont know this, but Sanford Florida is 40 mins north of Orlando and they have international daily flights from London and Manchester because of all the british influx into central florida. Flying into sanford on a charter flight is so much cheaper than a standard commercial flight into orlando, florida. If this theme park were to be in England, i would be over there yearly, not a problem. Would be so worth it...at least i hope!!

No, the americans wont get your accents wrong ...WHY???? Because they wont hire americans to play english witches!!! God, none of you have an inkling, unless you have actually been to, say, EPCOT Center, in orlando, that they actually have loads of English people living there who work in jobs like this, acting, singings, all the entertainment industry in central florida that caters to everyone who visits. So you are totally wrong in your supposition....IF JK Rowling puts her stamp of approval on this theme park, then it likely will have hiring practices to her standards, i.e., English/Irish actors playing the speaking characters. I have no doubt that they would nix an actress trying out for Hermione w/ a southern accent trying to fake an english one, please people!!!
