| | Bonnie Wright interview & photo with SheKnows
An interview with Bonnie Wright, about family, boys, education and love has been published by SheKnows and includes a new photo of the actress. Quote: SheKnows: Did your brother think you would be good as Ginny and tell you to try out for the part? Bonnie Wright: That’s true. He’d read the first few books and he’d really loved them and he was like ‘Oh, you really remind me of the character of Ginny’ and I said ‘okay’ not knowing who that was, because we’d heard that they were doing the castings. That’s basically why I went for the casting really. I probably should say thanks to him.
Quote: SheKnows: These movies have been such a huge chunk of your life, Do you feel like you’ve missed anything by doing them year after year? Bonnie Wright: I think I’ve missed out on that classroom dynamic when you are all learning together . My education has been quite one-to-one which is great, You do get a lot done in an hour compared to being in school and being interrupted. SheKnows: Were you all schooled on set at the same time? Bonnie Wright: Yes, when we were younger and everyone did similar subjects, there were more of us in the class. But as we became more specific in what we were doing, it was just one-to-one. But, to be honest, I think looking back at it now, it’s definitely enriched my childhood way more than it’s taken anything away. I think from working with everyone on set, everyone’s just so supportive and really driven in what they do so it’s been an inspiration. Their work ethic is something that rubbed off on all of us.
Quote: SheKnows: What must a guy never do if he doesn’t want to make you angry? Bonnie Wright: Oooo, I don’t like guys when they love themselves too much. That’s a real push off. There’s got to be an equal feeling. Then I guess with us being sort of recognizable for what we do, I think when people treat you differently in that sense, it’s not right. Or they act differently. Be yourself. Quote: SheKnows: There is the fun and comic use of some love potions in the film. If you really liked a guy, would you use a love potion on him if it were available and you knew it would work? Bonnie Wright: God, yeah! (we laugh). Well, you could...but, would it wear off and then it’s short-lived? I could. It’s a little bit cheating but I don’t see why not. Give it a go. SheKnows: How do you think young women should handle first love? Bonnie Wright: It depends on if the feelings are shared. It’s quite difficult, and I think it’s shown very well in this film with the Lavender Brown thing with Ron, this idea that one of them can be much more obsessed than the other. It’s difficult at that age when you are finding out all different sorts of feelings and why you’re interested in boys but they still seem so immature. I think girls mature more quickly. If a guy shows an interest, get close to them and they might understand. And obviously be yourself. So many girls are pressured to physically look different or put on a different persona. Don’t be liked for someone else.

| All the talk about Bonnie being so awkward doesn't hold as much credence after reading this interview. Very mature and confident for her age. It seems more likely that's the way the director wanted her part played. I had hoped we would see the firey character of the book. |

Acting and being yourself in an interview, are two entirely different things. She holds her own in interviews rather well but when it came to the movie...

You've just got this "hate her" thing going on it seems. We haven't seen her in any other parts, so I think it's rather harsh to rush to judgement about her first time with more than a couple of lines of dialogue. I'll be the first to admit I was giving her too much leeway if her performance in Deathly Hallows is the same. But then again it's the same director and he seems to have a fixed notion about how the character should be portrayed. |

Criticism can be constructive. You shouldn't mistake that for hate. The two are very far between. Imo, she does well in interviews but her acting left a lot to be desired.

Criticism is only constructive to the person giving it, rarely to the person receiving, since it is criticism no matter how you flavor it. I'm guessing she wouldn't see it anyway considering shooting schedules and all these trips some members of the cast are doing. I believe it was printed here that she's going to Film school this year, so it may be that she won't appear on screen again. In that case, neither of us will know whether she really had any promise for a ongoing acting career. All in all, she was a cute kid who was cast as Ginny. Turned out to be a beautiful young lady and has had an ongoing part in a film series a lot of actors would give a lot to be involved with in any way. |

Without it, you imply perfection.

| Responding Nice quote, but I wasn't implying anything, just commenting on how criticism is received by some, if not many people, receiving it. My opinion is that without encouragement a lot of us tend to retreat into a protective shell. Having a little acting experience, I think I'm okay with saying that a lot of actors have a fragile self image about many things, and some react really strongly to negative feedback. No implication then, just commenting on watching the human psyche at work. The younger they are, the more unsure of themselves they can be at times. |

^ True as that may be, I don't think that means actors should be praised all the time.

Some directors can chastise & encourage and the actor doesn't realize which. Some have such a (can't think of another word but bossy) attitude that the less experienced actors get intimidated and don't really "get into" to their role very well. Steven Speilberg is an example of a director who really gets marvelous results with teens down to the very young kids. The ones who are on the other side of the coin don't usually fare too well with less than experienced actors. Thanks for the lively banter. |
